APPROVED VILLAGE OF LAKE ZURICH PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING SEPTEMBER 11, 2012 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:48 p.m. by Chair Brazier. 2. Roll Call: Present - Chairperson Dawn Brazier, Board Members Tim Andrews, Allen Borg, Kevin Koch, and Mary Mihelic. Excused - Jeff Carey. Staff present - Interim Park and Recreation Manager Kathy Katz. 3. Approval of Minutes: MOTION made by Mary Mihelic, seconded by Tim Andrews, to approve the minutes of the August 14, 2012 Park Advisory Board meeting as submitted. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED. (Kevin Koch abstained.) 4. Public Comments: None 5. Old Business – None 6. New Business: Special Events: Dawn Brazier provided an update on the meeting of the Special Events Task Force. She recommends existing community events remain and even be improved upon. She listed events that she was interested in and invited comments from the board. She would like to see a fine art fair, street dance, mini fall festival, concerts and movies in the park, family campout, and a farmers market. A sharing of ideas on special events followed. Winter sports, the ice rink, and ways to invite the community to enjoy winter activities were discussed. Dawn Brazier said the time to start planning for next year’s special events is now so approvals can be obtained and donations solicited. Fundraising, sponsorships, naming rights, establishment of a “Friends of the Park” organization, and other ways to obtain donations were discussed. Utilization of the golf course should be researched for an outing next year. She announced that a fall celebration will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Celebration Park from 12-4. Painted rain barrels, face painting, and various fall activities will be offered. Board members are encouraged to attend. Recreation Programming Discussion: Dawn Brazier said that now that the OSLAD grant application has been completed, it is time to focus on recreation programming so the wants and needs of the community can be fulfilled. There was agreement that marketing of programs needs to be improved upon. Discussion followed on possible ways to target appropriate segments of the community so they are aware of programs that might interest them. Kevin Koch agreed to research using the schools to distribute flyers. Dawn Brazier will create a list of projects and ask board members to sign up for projects that they would be interested in working on. Park and Recreation Advisory Board Minutes, September 11, 2012 2 OSLAD Grant: Dawn Brazier said she spoke with Keith Demchinski of the IDNR and there is nothing to do except wait for a letter hopefully inviting Lake Zurich to make a presentation. She said sponsors should be sought for items in the Paulus Park improvements, if the Village is successful, such as naming rights for the amphitheater. 7. Adjournment MOTION made by Tim Andrews, seconded by Mary Mihelic, to adjourn the meeting. Voice vote, all in favor. MOTION CARRIED.
