VILLAGE OF LAKE ZURICH Tree Commission Minutes November 18, 2008 7:00 p.m. Approved A. Roll Call: Present: Shawn Walkington - Chairperson, Commissioner Garrison, Commissioner Harper, Commissioner Kozub. Absent: Commissioner Froehde. B. Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Kozub requested the minutes be changed to show that she was present last meeting. Commissioner Kozub moved to approve minutes and Commissioner Garrison seconded the motion. All were in favor. C. Forestry Goals and Objectives: The final revision was overlooked and approved by the members. A meeting with the Village board was set for Dec 1st at 6:30. The meeting will go over the goals and objectives and update on Tree Removal Permit Ordinance. Commissioner Walkington will go over the permits at the meeting and Commissioner Garrison will cover the goals and objectives. D. Removal Permits Update: Commissioner Harper asked if Commissioner Walkington was pleased with how the ordinance was going. Commissioner Walkington said that there have been no problems with permits and that it was not taking away from his other duties. Commissioner Garrison stated that the ordinance should continue to be advertised to keep residents informed of the ordinance. We will look into putting it in the newsletter again. E. Ela Town Hall Update: Commissioner Harper asked if it were possible for them to approve trees that are not on the approved tree list. It is possible to approve plans with trees not on our list. The agreement between the Village of Lake Zurich and Ela Township was drafted by Village of Lake Zurich attorney. The draft was reviewed by the Tree Commission and approved. F. Plan Reviews: 570 Oakwood - The Tree Commission would like to see more diversity in the tree plantings, and there are not adequate tree islands. They need to add 3 tree islands. All Creatures - They need an additional parking island on the east side of the parking lot. We would also like to see trees installed at the north end of the parking lot, one on the east side and one on the west. The Tree Commission does like their landscape plan. Monkey Joes- approved. G. New Business: Tree Commission reviewed possibilities for Tree City Growth Award. H. Adjourn: 8:45 p.m.
