TREE COMMISSION MINUTES

April 13, 2010 7:00 PM
1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Scott Garrison at 7 PM
Present were Chairman Garrison, Members Tony Harper, Mary Kozub, and Shawn Walkington.
2. PUBLIC COMMENT - William Elliot resident of Old Mill Grove Road commented on the
trimming of parkway trees on Old Mill Grove Road. He stated he did not see the need to have the trees
trimmed up so high over the street. Commissioner Garrison explained the mechanism for tree trimming
and how the tree trimming cycle works.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Commissioner Kozub motioned to accept the March 2, 2010
meeting minutes. Commission Harper seconded. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED.
4. NEW MEMBER APPLICATIONS – There were four (4) applications that the Tree Commission
members received for the vacant position of member. The applications were reviewed and questions were
submitted to Commissioner Garrison to ask during the interview process.
5. ARBOR DAY – In celebration of Arbor Day a tree will be planted on April 21 at Seth Paine
School. On April 24, an Oak Tree will be planted at Paulus Park in memory of Al Froehde.
6. NEW BUSINESS – Commissioner Kozub would like to begin working once again on the
Natural Open Space Ordinance. This item will be placed on the May agenda.
7. PLAN REVIEW - Lake Zurich Meadows – The plan was rejected. There is not enough
diversity in their shade tree plantings. The number of trees planted is fine but they need to add a couple
more species, i.e. Oak and Hickory. They do not meet the requirement set forth in the Ordinance for tree
islands.
7 ADJOURNMENT –
MOTION was made by Commissioner Garrison, seconded by Commissioner Kozub, to adjourn the
meeting. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED
