O. Tree Commission Agendas/

APPROVED VILLAGE OF LAKE ZURICH TREE COMMISSION 505 Telser Road, Lake Zurich January 10, 2012 6:30 PM A. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Scott Garrison at 6:30 PM B. ROLL CALL-Present were Chairman Garrison, Jim Mihelic, Judi Thode, Mary Kozub and Village Liaison Shawn Walkington. C. PUBLIC COMMENT- None D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Commissioner Kozub motioned to accept the December 6, 2011 meeting minutes. Commissioner Mihelic seconded. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED. E. OLD BUSINESS- Commissioner Kozub talked with Beth Corrigan. Topic fell under Tree Preservation. F. TREE PRESERVATION- Commissioner Kozub talked wit Beth Corrigan from the Morton Arboretum. At this time we are waiting to get ordinances updated. Chairmen Garrison talked with Dan Peterson and Dan stated that he is extremely busy and does not have time at the moment to help with Tree Preservation at this time. Commissioner Kozub suggested that we draft a letter stating we would like to revisit the topic in the future. Commissioner Thode will draft a letter. G. WEB PAGE – The link will be titled Our Urban Forest. Chairmen Garrison would like numbers for EAB to be put on Web Page. Liaison Walkington will Email him numbers and locations. Commission discussed following topics for Web Page topping trees, would like to see some pictures added to show right and wrong. Value of trees, change the first paragraph removing appraisals and add the positive effect trees have on mental well being. Also provide habitat for wildlife. Pruning Mature trees – need to add photos. Protecting trees during construction- add sentence – By properly caring for your trees during construction it will preserve your trees thus enhancing your property value. Planting trees- add planting photos and check formatting. Commissioner Thode will put together paragraph for Arbor Day. H. ARBOR DAY- It will be April 21 9 till 12:30. We will try and get the birds of prey lady again and contact other vendors as well. Also look into being closer to the Barn. Any supplies needed for park cleanup will be delivered the day before. We will contact May Whitney for tree planting. I. EMERALD ASH BORER- Chairman Garrison passed out updated Illinois EAB infestation map. Liaison Walkington informed Commission that there is a grant available to replace Ash trees to combat EAB. Chairmen Garrison asked about removals for private property trees. Removal letters will be sent for EAB positive trees. Commission discussed getting someone to come speak about treating trees for EAB. Liaison Walkington will contact the Villages tree contractor. J. NEW BUSINESS- None K. ADJOURNMENT – MOTION was made by Commissioner Thode, seconded by Chairman Garrison to adjourn the meeting. Voice votes, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED Meeting adjourned at 9 PM.
