RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by the City Council Subcommittee comprised of Councilmember Belle, Councilmember Bocchi and Councilmember Farmer that the City Council appoint Amelia Escobedo, Lianna Olds, Josette Parker, Darwin Peters II, Virginia Rawlings and Chelsey Tschosik to serve on the Library Advisory Committee. DISCUSSION: On April 18, 2022 the City Council authorized execution of an interlocal agreement between the Pierce County Library System (PCLS) and the City of Lakewood (City) to manage public engagement for the Lakewood and Tillicum libraries. The interlocal agreement directs the PCLS and the City to form a Library Advisory Committee to be jointly appointed by the legislative bodies. The committee will review public input, study building needs, and advise the Library System on how to best serve Lakewood. Selected committee members will meet approximately five times between June and September. A press release advertising the volunteer opportunity was posted on the City’s website and social media platforms. Applications were accepted for 10-days through April 30, 2022. A total of 39 applications were received. On May 23, 2022, a City Council Subcommittee consisting of three members, Patti Belle, Paul Bocchi, and Linda Farmer reviewed the applications and have recommended six individuals for appointment by the City Council. ALTERNATIVE(S): The City Council could recommend appointment of alternate individuals to the six positions. FISCAL IMPACT: There no costs associated with this action. This combines my interest in languages with programming and artwork.
