Regufar meeting of the City of Laramie Board of Health was held Thursday, September 18, 1997 at 7:00
a.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall.
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:08 by Linda Yost.

II. APPROV AL OF AGENDA
Dr. Becki Burman moved to approve the December 4, 1997 agenda. Motion was seconded by Dr.
Linda Yost. Said agenda was thus approved.
Ill. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Dr. Becki Burman movedto approvethe September 18, 1997 minutes. Motion was seconded by
Dr. Linda Yost. Said minutes were thus approved.
jV. OLD BUSINESS
A. October Food Safety Campaign update
Ms. Whitman indicated that the October Food Safety Campaign was a success.
She said that although the results of the final survey were not yet tabulated,
initial results indicate that the program was successfull. She commended
Jennifer O'Malley for her extraordinary efforts.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Food Borne Illness Report
Ms. Whitman indicated that foodborne illness reporting from the State Health
Department is stiil a problem. She indicated that she would work with Dr. Gayle
Miller to determine how, when and to whom in Albany County the foodborne
"lmproving Our Quality Of Life"
illness reports will be made. It was suggested that Ms. Whitman contact her
State Representative, Josette Lauze. Ms. Whitman indicated that she would
begin calling twice a week.
Restaurant Closure
Ms. Whitman indicated that the Environmental Health Department had enforced
a voluntary closure of a Food Service establishment in Laramie for sanitation
reasons.
Yersinia enterocolitica Case
Dr. Yost described a recent case of Yersinia which was laboratory confirmed.
Ms. Whitman explained the follow-up investigation procedures and laboratory
results from food samples. No source was identified.
Wyoming Food Safety Task Force
Ms. Whitman indicated that she is one of two local Health Department
representatives chosen to serve on the Wyoming Food Safety Task Force. The
charge given to the Committee by the Commissioner of Agriculture, Ron Micheli
is to:
1 ). Rewrite all statutes pertaining to Food Safety.
2). Assume the role of an advisory committee.
Goal Setting
The Board of Health discussed goal setting and the role of the Board at length.
Linda Yost indicated that a priority for her was to codify the pool codes locally
and increase our current pool inspections. She requested that Ms. Whitman
bring information regarding pools to the next meeting. Ms. Whitman suggested
that the Board review all environmental health programs before they focus on a
single program. Gary Rimington, Community Services Director for the City of
Laramie, suggested that the Board wait to begin its review until affer January.
He indicated that the reorganization will change the inspection process under
which the Department currently operates. The Board agreed to wait and
requested that Ms. Whitman provide information regarding the Community
Service reorganization at the next meeting.
Other
Ms. Whitman suggested that the Board invite the County Public Health Nursing
Supervisor and the County Health Officer to a slide presentation on the Laramie
Environmental Health department. No date was set for the presentation.
Next Meeting Scheduled
The next Board of Health meeting was scheduled forThursday March 12, 1998.
