Laramie Advisory Commission on Disabilities City Hall Council Chambers 5:00-6:00 pm Thursday, March 7th, 2019 Meeting Minutes Members Present: JoCarol Ropp, Marla Puett-Sandberg, Sam Burkett, Michaela Rank Members Absent: Nick Wiseman, Jerrica Becken, Michelle, Blakely, Mark Sparks Council Liaison: Erin O’Doherty Staff Liaison: Jasmine Parten Guests: Jordan Achs, Tea Hill JoCarol called the meeting to order at 5:11 pm. I. No quorum to approve minutes. II. Board members introduced themselves to the guests. III. NEW BUSINESS: A. Disability Awareness Month: i. JoCarol explained that there would not be a display at the Albany County Public Library because John Burman passed away and they are doing a display as a memorial for him. ii. Sam starts off the nominations for businesses around Laramie with wanting to nominate Landmark Event Staffing. He explains that they give those with disabilities opportunity for employment and go out of their way to help those with disabilities at the events they are working. Although Jerrica was absent she sent in an e-mail stating she would like to nominate Safeway for accommodating those with disabilities and giving those with disabilities opportunities for employment as well. Michaela suggested Washaki for their willingness to employ those with disabilities but thought that they could be added to next year’s list. Erin agreed that they should wait. iii. JoCarol stated that there was a rather long list and suggested that Jasmine send the list out through e-mail, so everyone may review it and vote. Everyone agreed with that idea. iv. The proclamation and awards were to be given out on Tuesday, March 19th at the Council meeting. JoCarol thought it would be nice to hand out the LACD stickers at the meeting. She thought the bookmarks may take a little longer but would work with Nick to get everything printed at Kinkos. v. JoCarol asked who would be willing to notify the businesses that they would be receiving the award. Jasmine was assigned and JoCarol told her to reach out if she needed help. B. U.W. Engineering Building: i. Erin wanted to bring to everyone’s attention the new UW Engineering building. She noted that there were a lot of stairs going into the building and stairs when you get inside. JoCarol thought there might be a side door and would check it out. Michaela asked if the separate entrance was visible. Jordan said that the building is mostly finished but does not think it is open yet. IV. OLD BUSINESS: A. Recreation Regional Conference Classes: i. Jasmine followed up with the description of the classes that would be hosted at the Recreation Regional Conference this April. Sam said he would be interested in taking the classes. He has been thinking about getting a service animal. Tea said she could get him in touch with Abilities. V. ADJOURNMENT 5:37 PM.
