Laramie Advisory Commission on Disabilities City Hall Council Chambers 5:00-6:00 pm Thursday, September 5th, 2019 Meeting Minutes Members Present: JoCarol Ropp, Mark Sparks, Marla Puett-Sandberg, Michelle Blakely, Sam Burkett, Michaela Rank, Emmalee Moore (phone) Members Absent: Nick Wiseman, Jerrica Becken Council Liaison: Erin O’Doherty Staff Liaison: Jasmine Parten Mark called the meeting to order at 5:02 pm. I. ROLE CALL II. APPROVAL OF JULY MINUTES A. Mark makes motion to accept July minutes. B. JoCarol seconds. C. Carried with voice vote. III. NEW BUSINESS: A. Vote in new chair. i. Marla makes a motion to accept Mark Sparks as Chair and Michaela Rank as Vice Chair. ii. Sam seconds. iii. Carried with voice vote. B. Sam was invited to a conference in April and will update the committee. C. Erin brought attention to the Disability Integration Act that is currently in legislation. Would like to educate the community about the act. Michaela asked when Employment Disability Month was, and it was confirmed that it is in October. Mark suggested putting it in the Boomerang. JoCarol suggested speaking at different meetings with groups around town. Sam suggested pairing up with Wyoming Independent Living. Mark suggests that the board raises awareness and have available resources. Erin suggested reaching out to radio stations. JoCarol said she would put together talking points for the group. Mark states that it seems like we have strayed from the Act and are focusing more on Employment Disability Month. To recap Erin will reach out to radio stations, Michaela will reach out to WIND, DBR and WAPSY, Sam will reach out to Wyoming Independent Living and the Ark, JoCarol will create talking points and Jasmine will create a proclamation. IV. OLD BUSINESS: A. Mark stated he would be interested in joining the Universal Committee. Sam said he was going to go to the Parks and Tree Advisory meeting and speak with the board. V.
