Laramie Advisory Commission on Disabilities Zoom 5:00-6:00 pm January 7th, 2021 Meeting Minutes Members Present: Katie Harmon, Emmalee Moore, Jerrica Beckon, JoCarol Ropp, Michelle Blakely, Michaela Rank, Marla Purett- Sandberg, Sam Burkett Council Liaison: Sharon Cumbie Staff Liaison: Kristi Andrews Visitors: Erin O’Doherty, John Walls Michaela called meeting to order at 5:02 pm. I. ROLE CALL: Due to a new Council liaison, staff liaison, and visitors, everyone introduced themselves. II. APPROVAL OF NOVEMBER MINUTES A. JoCarol made motion to accept. B. Sam seconded. C. Carried on Voice Votes III. NEW BUSINESS A. John Walls from Casper is reaching out to the Casper community and City Council asking everyone to partner to help purchase a snow blower and address the snow removal issues in the City. He hopes to start at the city level and move to the state level. LACD may add as an agenda item to discuss Laramie’s involvement next meeting. B. Service animals will now have to be certified to go on airlines. C. Disability Awareness Month Ideas a. Adopt-a-Ramp: People adopt a curb-ramp for a set month. Could be publicized in the Boomerang. i. JoCarol motioned to bring the Adopt-a-Ramp program to the attention of City Council. ii. Sam seconded. iii. Carried on Voice Vote. iv. Sharon Cumbie and Erin O’Doherty will do further research of similar programs and bring it to the City Council on behalf of the LACD. b. Virtual Puppet Show for Schools: High Schoolers could help put it on. LACD could come up with a script. Head Start has puppets that  could be borrowed. The puppet show could be recorded and shown multiple times. Sam will talk to Nick about other ideas. c. Honoring Business: Everyone will bring ideas next meeting. Jasmine could provide the list from last year that did not get used. d. Compile Resources for the Libraries: Katie will begin to compile Instagram, films, books, twitter, and other media that promotes the Disabilities Rights Movement. Others can email her their additions. LACD can then work with the school and the local library to house the list and/or create displays. IV. Michaela suggested a Special Meeting on Thursday, February 4th at 5pm to further discuss Disabilities Awareness Month. i. Sam motioned to approve this suggestion. ii. Katie seconded. iii. Carried on Voice Vote. V. OLD BUSINESS A. Zenith / Boomerang response: Jerrica shares the they are now doing a special column to bring further awareness as a result. B. Michelle gave an update on her project. She will hopefully have results to share in March. VI. Next meeting is a special meeting on February 4th. Next normal meeting is on March 4th. VII. ADJOURNMENT at 5:53 pm.
