Laramie Advisory Commission on Disabilities Zoom 5:00-6:00 pm March 4th, 2021 Meeting Minutes Members Present: Emmalee Moore, JoCarol Ropp, Michaela Rank, Marla Puett- Sandberg, Sam Burkett, Katie Harmon Absent Members: Jerrica Becken, Michelle Blakely Council Liaison: Sharon Cumbie Guests: Nancy Bartholomew, Mel Cody Staff Liaison: Jasmine Parten Michaela called meeting to order at 5:03 pm. I. ROLE CALL a. Everyone introduced themselves to the newest board member, Mel Cody. II. APPROVAL OF JANUARY MINUTES A. Marla made motion to accept. B. Katie seconded. C. Carried on Voice Votes III. NEW BUSINESS A. Open Meetings Act and Roberts Rule training presented by City Clerk Nancy Bartholomew. a. Rules are to ensure transparency between public and commission. Nancy wanted to thank all the members for their time. All boards members are appointed on a voluntary basis. Don’t hit “reply all” to emails. Responses should go through the City Liaison. All emails regarding business are considered public record. IV. OLD BUSINESS B. Disability Awareness Month Ideas a. No more businesses were nominated by any members or the Laramie Chamber Business Alliance. b. Katie heard back from two school libraries that will display Disability Awareness material. She created a list of resources that was shared with the board. Mel gave her a contact to the Albany Public Library to see if they would be willing to share the resources. The resource list will be shared with the City website and LACD Facebook page. c. Sam is still working on the virtual puppet show. He is hoping to have a flyer created by the end of the weekend. He needs two to three board members to volunteer with reading the script. Mel volunteered to help upload the show to YouTube, Sharon and JoCarol both volunteered to help read the scripts. Sam will reach out to Becky from WY Independent Living to get the scripts, should not be longer than 15-minute episodes. He also contacted Nick Wiseman for help. Sam will send out an email to set up a time for the volunteers to meet. d. JoCarol contacted the Albany County Public Library to be the feature of the month but was told that the commission would need to contact them next December, as that is when they plan out there year. It will be added to the calendar as a reminder. e. Mel asked what outreach is being done for adults in the community. It has been hard to do any outreach. It was suggested that the commission partner with Tales at the Taphouse. Mel will send out contact information. f. Sharon gave an update about closed captioning that is now happening on all council meetings. She wanted to thank City staff for implementing her suggestion so quickly. Her goal is to have all public meetings use the closed caption option. Adopt a Curb is a bigger project than expected. Erin and Sharon will reach out to key organizations to determine certain areas that need the most help. Hoping to be able to kick the program off next October. g. The proclamation for Disability Awareness Month and to recognize the nominated businesses for being ADA inclusive for 2020 will be held at the Council meeting on March 16th. Sam will be present to accept the proclamation. The final nominated businesses are as follows: i. Planet Fitness ii. School District iii. University of Wyoming iv. Laramie Head Start v. Developmental Pre-School vi. Wyoming Independent Living vii. Albany County Court House V. Next meeting is on May 6th. VI. ADJOURNMENT at 6:05 pm.
