Laramie Advisory Commission on Disabilities Zoom 5:00-6:00 pm May 6th, 2021 Meeting Minutes Members Present: Emmalee Moore, Marla Puett- Sandberg, Sam Burkett, Katie Harmon, Jerrica Becken, Mel Cody, Michelle Blakely Absent Members: Michaela Rank, JoCarol Ropp Council Liaison: Sharon Cumbie Staff Liaison: Jasmine Parten Katie called meeting to order at 5:01 pm. I. ROLE CALL II. APPROVAL OF MARCH MINUTES A. Mel made motion to accept. B. Sam seconded. C. Carried on voice votes III. NEW BUSINESS A. Sam attended a meeting with Casper’s Mayor Council on Disabilities concerning their transportation. Sam is concerned with transportation over the summer. He will send an email with links to contact other Cities about their transportation. Jerrica mentioned that the Laramie Connections Center is raising money for an ADA accessible van, that will help fill in the gaps when the other bus services are unavailable. B. Mel asked if the commission would be interested in helping with accessibility and possibly having a booth at Pride Fest. The commission agreed that it would be a great opportunity to connect with the community. They would like to use the obstacle course that the Crumudgeon’s made for the commission. Jerrica and Sam will attend the upcoming planning meeting for Pride Fest. Pride in the Park will be held in Washington Park on June 26th at 12:00 pm. All COVID precautions will be met at this event. a. Katie made a motion to have a special meeting on June 3rd at 5:00 pm to finish planning the commissions booth for the event. b. Mel seconded. c. Carried on voice votes. IV. OLD BUSINESS  C. Katie only heard back from two teachers about displaying disability books in their libraries, but never received photos of the displays. She will reach out one more time. D. Sam is still working on the puppet show. Sharon volunteered to do voice overs along with Paul Taylor who is an Australian storyteller. Sharon and Sam will look online for scripts. Once everything is ready Mel will help out with recording the show and posting it online. Sharon also has sound equipment that can be used. Sam will contact Nick Wiseman to also help with voice overs. E. Sam spoke at the City Council meeting for the Disability Awareness Month proclamation. No businesses that were nominated attended. F. Sharon stated that now all Council meetings are using closed captioning. V. Next meeting will be a special meeting on June 3rd, 2021. VI. ADJOURNMENT at 5:41 pm.
