HOOPER RENWICK LEGACY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday, February 18, 2020 Third Floor Gwinnett Municipal Association Large Conference Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order Chairman Bailey recognizing a quorum called the meeting to order at 6:08 pm. PRESENT Committee Member Theresa Bailey Committee Member Constance Brown Committee Member Ronald Dunnigan Committee Member Gary Glenn Committee Member John Maxey Committee Member Joyce Moore Committee Member Gwendolyn Brown Taylor Committee Member Vivian Summerour-Daniel Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes 1. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes – December 17, 2019, January 21, 2020, and February 3, 2020 Special Call Copies of the minutes from the previous meetings were given to the Committee members for review. Motion to approve the minutes from the December 17, 2019 meeting was made by Committee Member Dunnigan, Seconded by Committee Member Maxey. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel. Motion to approve the minutes from the January 21, 2020 meeting was made by Committee Member Maxey, Seconded by Committee Member Taylor. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel. Motion to approve the minutes from the February 3, 2020 Special Call meeting was made by Committee Member Maxey, Seconded by Committee Member Dunnigan. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel. New Business 2. Discussion Regarding Field Trip to Relevant Museums Chairman Bailey stated that this was discussed and they have a working document that will be presented at the March meeting. 3. Update on Discussions with Consultants Chuck Warbington (City Manager) provided the following updates: Update on discussion with Melissa Jest: Melissa would like information on the history of Hooper Renwick as well as information on the project. She would also like to tour the facility and possibly include the project and history in an upcoming newsletter. This lists exhibit planning and outreach amongst its HP services.  Ray/Ellis/LaBrie of Atlanta lists Cultural Resource Exhibit planning  WLA Studio based in Athens consulted on the Gwinnett Environmental/Heritage Center Update on discussion with Lauren Tate Baeza: She would like information on the history of Hooper Renwick as well as information on the project including costs and goals. She would also like to tour the facility. She could be available to work on the project as a consultant later this spring. Update on Discussions with Commissioner Marlene Fosque Chuck Warbington gave an update on his meetings with Gwinnett County Commissioner Fosque  Met with Commissioner Fosque and Facility Director, Angelia Parham.  Discussed setting up a tour of the existing facility, when the weather is warmer.  Chuck will send studies on structure, roof, and mechanical systems for County’s use.  Chuck will resend costs, program, and renderings to Angelia. Chuck offered Chad Smith’s assistance to refine or provide any additional information the County needs to help finalize potential concepts. Commissioner Fosque emphasized that operations of the museum needs to be sustainable and a plan needs to be in place for the long term. Also, emphasized the importance of separation of the two uses at times is important so each could operate independently. Action Items:  Chuck to follow-up with County on items that were requested  Chuck to begin to work on possible timeline with hopes to present in March  Chuck to follow-up with consultants and look at next steps  Theresa to finalize business plan and present in March  Theresa to finalize field trip list and present in March  Theresa to continue list of potential artifacts Final Adjournment Chuck Warbington reminded everyone that the next meeting is Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 6 pm in City Hall.
