Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Motion to approve the prior meeting minutes was made by Commission Member Walden, Seconded by Commission Member Hammond. Voting Yea: Commission Member Hammond, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders General Discussion 2. Budget Update There were no changes to the budget since the last meeting. 3. Subcommittee Updates Community Outreach and Branding: The Committee has not met but will try to by the end of the week. They will need to determine what items they want to order for Free Comic Book Day. They will provide that to Jasmine so she can place the order. Stickers were discussed, and Jasmine advised that she has received the digital version of the mural. The wooden cars will be used at the Lawrenceville Boogie. The picnic tables will hopefully be sealed by next week, and there will be four available to set out at the plaza. One has been placed near the employee entrance at City Hall, but no feedback has been received yet. Harvest Festival will need volunteers to help with the pumpkin painting, and sign ups can be handled through Eventeny. Grants and Funding: There are no updates, however the Downtown Development Association (DDA) has released their Façade Grant and the Arts Commission will use that as a model to help build their grant. 4. 2024 Arts Commission Retreat/Strategic Working Session The retreat will be postponed until the end of the summer. Aura-Leigh will send out a Doodle Poll to determine if the August or September meeting will be extended for the retreat. 5. SouthArts Creative Placemaking Summit Helen with Planning & Development sent an e-mail suggesting a Zoom meeting to share ideas, and hopes to be more integrated with the Arts Commission as they begin working on Honest Alley, hopefully to work together for ideas on Art in the Alley. Sharing information on projects will help with collaboration. 6. Crogan Street Mural The Crogan Street Mural was completed in three days. A video was made and should be completed soon. A group picture was discussed, but it may be difficult due to the location and not being able to shut down the road, so other options will be considered. Jasmine asked if something could be placed on the ground in front of Strange Taco to show the best location to take a picture of the mural, and possibly put up a yard sign with what the picture will look like from that location. 7. Lawrenceville Blooms Mural Extensions No roads will need to be shut down for this portion of the project. Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has advised that they are good to move forward with the mural extension. Jasmine will submit the permit information and hopes that this can be completed within two weeks, and will advise the artist once the application has been approved. This portion of the mural will not include any public participation. 8. Georgia Gwinnett College Highway Ramp Mural Aura-Leigh had a chance to join the GGC Faculty meeting and had a conversation with Jeff to discuss the highway mural. It may be possible to get students from school involved in the project, and getting the community involved as well. It is believed that it will not be difficult to get participants to help paint this mural. The Call for Art will need to be finalized and Jasmine will work on getting the details discussed incorporated, some of which include having public participation, an abstract design that has muted tones, not be distracting to motorists, no letters or people, and the finalists will need to visit the location. The members will review the Call for Art prior to the next regular meeting to provide their feedback, and they will need to approve prior to the Call being sent out. Jasmine will also provide the Call for Art to GDOT so they are aware of the project. 9. Georgia Gwinnett College Roundabouts There are no updates at this time. Casey will send some topiary ideas to the members that may be able to be used in this project. Upkeep to any installation in this area will need to be minimal. 10. Other Projects Updates Aura-Leigh advised that this item has been added to allow members to provide an update to projects that really do not need a specific agenda item. She also advised that a location to display the Bobby Sikes artwork has not yet been found. Other Business There was no other business.
