LAWRENCEVILLE ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES Tuesday, September 09, 2025 Third Floor GwMA Conference Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:02pm Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Commission Member Hammond, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins. Voting Yea: Commission Member Hammond, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders Voting Abstaining: Commission Member Spinks (arrived at 6:09p) Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes 1. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Casey Spinks arrived at 6:09p Motion to approve prior meeting minutes was made by Commission Member Stone-Collins, Seconded by Commission Member Walden. Voting Yea: Commission Member Hammond, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Spinks General Discussion 2. Budget Update Jasmine Jackson stated project budget is $151,582.63 (nothing has changed since last month) capital budgets rollover. 3. Subcommittee Updates Aura-Leigh Sanders reminded Jasmine Jackson of t-shirts ordering from previous meeting. A quote has not been received yet; the commission discussed sweatshirts since weather is changing (ex from previous year: 50 short sleeve shirts were $1245 s-xl). The group discussed an alternate logo design (white lettering or outlined in white) in a variety of t-shirt colors. Jasmine will email committee with design proofs by end of week. Aura-Leigh proposed increasing the budget supply spending limit from $750 to $1500 one time to purchase 25 t-shirts and 10 sweatshirts. Motion to increase supply budget spending limit to $1500.00 for a one-time purchase of t- shirts and sweatshirts was made by Commission Member Sanders, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins. Voting Yea: Commission Member Hammond, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Spinks 4. Master Plan Request For Pricing Jasmine Jackson will send an email to committee members containing questions used to score the request for pricing (RFP) for upcoming projects around the city by the Arts Commission. Jasmine will be looking for feedback from commission members by the end of September. Pricing will not be included in scoring to remain unbiased. Amber Walden, Aura- Leigh Sanders and Casey Spinks have been confirmed as scorers. $18,000 from funds being held by Explore Gwinnett can be applied to this project and an application for a T-Mobile grant is also being considered. Other Projects 5. Project Updates Magnolia on Sweet Breeze has been officially unveiled. A survey was sent to community participants for feedback on the project however only thirteen (13) responses were received. Jasmine will send another email to hopefully get more feedback from participants for better results; survey deadline is 9/23/25. The commission members discussed buying or renting sculptures for installation around the city. There was great discussion around artists, styles, and Jasmine shared about an artist Heulani Mei who creates scenic metal sculptures. Other Business 6. Project Task Force The group discussed each member taking on responsibility for heading up one project each. Some of the projects discussed were temporary and permanent sculptures, wrapping or painting of utility boxes, painting of power boxes, and repurposing of decommissioned fire hydrants located near the dog park, and other additional locations. Additional mural locations were discussed for future projects. The "Lawrenceville Blooms" mural will be repainted by the artist due to damage from direct sunlight and drainage issue. The Arts Commission will not incur an expense for this depending on the review by artist Teresa Abboud. Citizen Comments Citizen comments will be limited to two (2) minutes per person. Arts Commission members will not respond to comments. There were no citizen comments Final Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made by Commission Member Chitwood, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins.
