LAWRENCEVILLE ARTS COMMISSION SPECIAL CALL MINUTES Wednesday, September 21, 2022 Third Floor GwMA Conference Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:09 PM recognizing a quorum. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Commission Member Fellows, Seconded by Commission Member Walden. Voting Yea: Commission Member Fellows, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Alhabashi General Discussion 1. GA Mural Trail The design of the mural was discussed. The goal of this meeting was to provide feedback to John Christian, the muralist, on suggested changes to previously submitted designs. The Council's next Work Session will be in October and the hope is to provide them with a proof at that time. The Grant was awarded in March, and we have until March to complete the mural. The members that were not present for this meeting provided their comments on the most recent design and those were shared with the group. Several items were discussed, in particular the mascots, the placement of the crepe myrtle, the train and the font. In looking at other city's murals that John has completed, the more simplistic looked nicer. In addition, McCray's has also painted the other side of the wall where this mural will be and if it is too busy it will compete with their mural. The Gwinnett Historic Courthouse was also discussed to possibly include in the mural. After the discussion, several items were identified to change in the mural and those items are voted on in the Motion. Change items to vote on:  1. Remove the extra "E" in Lawrenceville 2. Remove the mascots 3. Remove the hashtag 4. Remove the pictures inside of the letters of Lawrenceville 5. Keep the angle of the letters of Lawrenceville 6. Make the color inside of the letters of Lawrenceville to be a solid light blue with shadow and white outline, and change the font to a fat nonserif font. 7. Keep the train but remove the Depot. 8. Center the crepe myrtle between the door and the edge of the mural 9. Add fireworks to the left side of Lawrenceville, keep fireworks on the right and remove the street light 10. Add "WELCOME TO" above the "L" in Lawrenceville, in cursive and white letters 11. Remove Incorporated in 1821 Motion to approve submission of items 1-11 to the muralist, John Christian, was made by Commission Member Sanders, Seconded by Commission Member Fellows. Voting Yea: Commission Member Fellows, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Alhabashi Final Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made by Commission Member Sanders, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins.
