RECAST ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES Wednesday, April 30, 2025 Third Floor GwMA Conference Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. Approval of Agenda Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Motion to approve minutes from the March 26, 2025, meeting made by Board Member Waltz, Seconded by Board Member Lewis. Voting Yea: Board Member Demby, Board Member Brown, Board Member Lafalaise, Board Member Martin, Board Member Waltz, Board Member Davis, Board Member Lewis Annoucements Board members were invited to pair and respond to the question, "What was your job at 23 years old, and how did that role influence where you are today?" Board members then had the opportunity to share what they learned with the larger group. Public Comments To participate in the Public Comment part of this agenda, you must register with the Advisory Board Secretary before the beginning of the meeting. Presentations will be limited to two (2) minutes per person and the Board will not respond to comments. No public comments were offered. General Discussion ReCAST General Program Update ReCAST Program Manager Marcus Thorne offered updates on the following: * A brief review and update of the ReCAST Orientation Binder -- an update of the binder was offered to refresh knowledge of the grant policies and framework. * Special thanks to board members for representing ReCAST at the Lawrenceville Boogie Event (4/12) -- specifically Chanda, Tawny, Michael, and Hector (who ran point at the ReCAST booth). * Updates on pending requests for proposal: 1) Year 4 Mini-Documentary (amplifying the outcomes and impact of the collaborative and aiding sustainability), 2) PhotoVoice Project (increasing student leadership and voice), and 3) Youth-led Kingian Nonviolence Training (increasing the youth-led training component grant deliverable at Central Gwinnett High School) * Training Progress: 1) We seek one more lunch sponsor for the Community Connections summer series; 2) The first GAINS training was held on 4/29; steps are being implemented to improve attendance. * Presentation of a ReCAST subcommittee report regarding raising awareness of ReCAST—Marcus shared a framework based on helpful feedback provided by Michael and Chanda. Michael recommended that a video be created to control ReCAST messaging. The board felt comfortable enough with the framework for the work to begin. Marcus thanked Michael and Chanda for their guidance. * Key Personnel Update: View Point Health lost their APEX therapist; numbers from that portion of the program are expected to decrease 1) during the summer months since the APEX program functions through the schools, and 2) until they are able to hire for the vacancy. ReCAST Partner Update: Georgia Center for Opportunity Carolina Pachon, Better Work Gwinnett Manager, shared updates regarding their program. From March to April, Better Work Gwinnett (BWG): * Received 18 referrals via Pokket, all from the Lawrenceville Response Center * Had 16 Lawrenceville residents apply for employment assistance through the BWG portal * Saw 11 Lawrenceville residents become active program participants, and began receiving coaching, resume prep support, interview practice, career assessment, and connections with employers and resources * Had 4 participants from previous months report finding employment Click here to see additional details, https://tinyurl.com/3bkzyxfa Other Business No other business was discussed.
