Keep League City Beautiful Citizen Committee
6:00 PM
The meeting was called to order at 6:01 PM by Jackie Liddell. Present were
Richard Williams, Frank Zgonc, Beth Sears, Jackie Liddell, Lisette McClung, Jason
Makepeace, and Dave Bowman (attending on Zoom). Also present for the
meeting was Director of Communications and Community Engagement Sarah
Osborne and Parks Coordinator John Orsag.
A motion to approve the minutes from the July 5 meeting was made by Jason
Makepeace and seconded by Frank Zgonc. All present agreed to approve the
minutes.
Richard gave an update on the upcoming Art Gallery. The title of the Art Gallery
will be called First Impressions. The Gallery will run from September 1 -
November 26. There will be an opening night reception on September 1, from 6-8
PM, at the Civic Center. An email will go out to White Linen Night artists/vendors,
Gallery artists, and Patrons of the Parks and Arts Foundation members advertising
the event.
Osborne then gave an update on city art projects. The traffic box on the corner of
SH 96 and Butler Road was completed by Doug Hiser. Wrap contest launch details
will come out in City Matters in early September. Phase 1 was completed on
August 1 for the murals at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside under the Bay Area
Boulevard bridge. Liz will start Phase 2 of the mural project this week. New
artistic bike racks were installed this week in front of Helen Hall Library. There
was also a new solar charging bench that was placed in front of the Municipal
Court. The rock garden at the Ghirardi Family WaterSmart Park was replenished
with 8 buckets of rocks by the League City Garden Club and Hewitt’s Heroes.
Orsag next told the group about nature and conservation projects and events.
The Chimney Swift Bird Tower Eagle Scout project is wrapping up along the
Magnolia Creek hike and bike trail. Installation is complete and now the only
thing left to do is for an artist to paint the structure. Another Eagle Scout project
that is about to be installed is the Pollinator Garden at Hometown Heroes Park.
This will be located next to the educational tree exhibit that was provided by
Texas-New Mexico Power. Some upcoming conservation and clean-up events will
be coming up this Fall. September 9th will be a clean-up event at Lynn Gripon
Park at Countryside and along Clear Creek and local hike and bike trails. October
4th will be a conservation event with the Galveston Bay Area Master Naturalists
at the Dick Benoit Prairie Preserve. Then on November 4th, there will be another
conservation event at the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center with
the Galveston Bay Foundation. This will be the Fall Sweep event for 2023. It was
also noted that the Household Hazardous Waste event will be held on August
26th, and Eco Fest will be held on September 16th.
The Committee then took action on a logo for Keep League City Beautiful. After
some discussion, the group voted to select image #8. They also incorporated the
paintbrush from image #9 into image #8. A motion to approve image #8 with the
addition of one item from image #9 for the KLCB logo was made by Jason
Makepeace and seconded by Jackie Liddell. All present agreed to approve the
motion.
Several members of the Committee then provided comments to the group.
Richard Williams presented the new White Linen Night poster for 2024. Sarah
Osborne stated that there will be a $7,500 grant that can be used for White Linen
Night in 2024. She also mentioned that we will keep the shuttle buses and free
water for next year as well. Jason Makepeace asked about the number of artist
booths and people who attended White Linen Night. Sarah Osborne finished up
talking about a future Jazz Series at League Park and maybe Plein Air painters that
could launch next year.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:16 PM.
