Meeting Minutes January 2, 2024 Keep League City Beautiful Citizen Committee 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Jackie Liddell. Present were Frank Zgonc, Beth Sears, Jackie Liddell, Lisette McClung, Richard Williams, Jill Reason, Dave Bowman, Todd Parker, and Casey Richard. Also present for the meeting was Director of Communications and Community Engagement Sarah Osborne and Parks Coordinator John Orsag. The next item of business was welcoming new KLCB Committee Members Todd Parker and Casey Richard. Both members introduced themselves to the group and told them about their backgrounds. A motion to approve the minutes from the November 7 meeting was made by Jill Reason and seconded by Frank Zgonc. All present agreed to approve the minutes. Osborne gave an update on the building mural at the shopping center located on the corner of I-45 and FM 518. The owner of the building has approved the final design with one change being requested to remove one of the kayakers. The project is looking to begin in February of this year. Osborne then gave an update about the FeatherFest Art Event that will be held in League City during the upcoming 2024 Galveston FeatherFest. This event will feature 100 bird paintings to be created by local artists and installed at the Civic Center’s Public Art Gallery in April during Spring Migration. So far there have been 93 artists that have picked up a canvas and one has already been completed and returned to the office. Some other important items that were discussed were the following: - Wild birds will be at the event for people to see - Galveston Bay Brewing Company has agreed to provide and serve beer - Wine distributors are still needed for the event - Exhibit set-up: will use foam core, lumber, and velcro to hang the art exhibit inside the Civic Center  - Deadline to submit artwork will be Monday, March 25 - Payment options for the paintings - Invitation to be sent out to find artists who can paint the live birds during the event Osborne next talked about the Professors and Proteges Art Exhibit. Art labels will be sent in during the week of January 8. The art gallery will be set up by students and professors on January 19. January 26 will be the opening night for the exhibit. Osborne then led a discussion about Saturday Jazz Nights in 2024. Galveston Bay Brewing is the title sponsor and will be selling beer, wine, and other beverages at each concert at League Park. Food trucks and Soul Freak Café will be serving hot beverages and pastries. The concerts will take place at League Park on February 24, March 23, and April 27. Orsag then gave the group information about a new event that would be coming up in April. It’s called the Bay Area Plant Swap. This event has been hosted in Dickinson for several years, but they have outgrown their current location. The Plant Swap is held twice a year and the next one will be hosted by the City of League City in the Civic Center parking lot. The date of this event will be Saturday, April 13. Orsag next gave the group an update about nature and conservation projects and events. The Clear Creek Environmental Foundation will be holding the annual Clear Creek Cleanup Event on February 3. There will be an Earth Day event this year on April 22 (Earth Day) where we will hand out tree and plant seedlings to the public. The City will take part in the Great American Cleanup during the month of March (date and location to be determined soon). Orsag then told the group that several annual certification applications have been completed and/or currently in the process of being worked on (Mayor’s Monarch Pledge - complete, Tree City USA - complete, Keep Texas Beautiful - working on it, Scenic City Texas - working on it). Osborne gave an update on city art projects. There have been 46 art submissions for the traffic box wrap contest. All packets containing the 46 submissions have been handed out to the committee. The group will meet at the Civic Center on January 23, at 8:30 am to pick the winners. 10 winning submissions will be selected at the meeting. Osborne then told the group that Doug Hiser will be completing a large mural under the overpass at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside later this year. This will be located under the Bay Area Boulevard bridge that runs over Clear Creek. Several members of the group then had comments to share. Dave told everyone about the upcoming Clear Creek Cleanup. He mentioned that a video interview will take place this week at the Boat Ramp. Orsag would also be sending out an email blast to the volunteer list to get the word out about the event to the public. Richard told the group that the League City Patrons of the Parks and Arts Foundation will be holding a General Meeting on January 27. He also mentioned that the Foundation will start holding workshops on the 3’rd Thursday of each month starting in February. The first one will be a workshop focusing on critique, and they are looking at dates for another one that will focus on social media influencers. Jackie then mentioned to everyone that the White Linen Night Committee will hold its first meeting of the year on January 9. Beth talked about a news article that she found regarding park benches that involved artistic elements. Richard made one final comment about the artist in residency program for the Ghirardi House. He would like to add it to the February KLCB meeting agenda. The meeting was adjourned at 7:38 PM.
