Meeting Minutes May 7, 2024 Keep League City Beautiful Citizen Committee 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Beth Sears. Present were Frank Zgonc, Jill Reason, Jackie Liddell, Richard Williams, Dave Bowman, Beth Sears, Todd Parker, and Casey Richard (left at 7:00 PM). Also present for the meeting was Director of Communications and Community Engagement Sarah Osborne and Parks and Cultural Services Coordinator John Orsag. A motion to approve the minutes from the April 2 meeting was made by Dave Bowman and seconded by Jill Reason. All present agreed to approve the minutes. Osborne led a discussion on the FeatherFest Art Event that was held on April 18. The event was a huge success, and over 300 people were in attendance. Discussion then focused on what went well and what improvements could have been made for the event. Todd Parker then talked about the Saturday Jazz Night Series. He noted that the February and March lectures were well attended and that all 3 concerts had 500- 600 people. They would now like to see if it would be possible to host a Jazz Festival in League City in late 2025. Orsag next informed the group about the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community Program. This is a Program that the City is interested in pursuing. There will be a community meeting about this subject on May 14, at the Civic Center. Osborne next talked about the Traffic Box Art Contest. The Traffic Department has given us the traffic box locations. The vendor who will complete the wraps is ready to go. The City agreement is also ready for the vendor to sign. Things are starting to move along well with this project. Richard Williams and Frank Zgonc informed the Committee about the upcoming White Linen Night Event. The event will be held on June 8. So far 103 art vendors have been approved for a booth, and 47 of those have paid. There will be an Art Party for all the art vendors on May 14, at Butler’s Courtyard. Osborne then led a discussion about ideas for themes on future Art Gallery’s. A list of themes was provided to the group, and several ideas were discussed in detail. The group will decide on the final themes soon. Richard Williams then talked about the Veteran's Expo Day planned for November at the Civic Center. The timeline for the event will go as follows: November 4 - 8; Receive artifacts, art, and writings November 8; Hang images on the walls, framed photos, and posters November 9; Set up display cases and other items November 10; Panel Discussion at 2 PM (meeting rooms will be open for Veteran’s Expo) November 11; BBQ and Ceremony (Veteran’s Expo) November 15; Closing day and pick-up artifacts Panel Discussion Participants - Jerry Clark, John McCarty, Jim Stettler, Tina Farrell, and others Osborne then gave an update on City Art Projects. She mentioned that the League City Public Garden mural has been completed at Hometown Heroes Park. Pictures of the project were shown to the group. There was also an update on the large mural that will be completed on the side of the shopping center at the corner of I-45 and FM 518. That project is ready to go, and all the parking lot work at the shopping center has been approved and should start within the next month or so. Once that is completed the work on the mural can begin. It looks like that will be sometime during the month of June or July. Orsag next gave the group an update about nature and conservation projects and events. It was mentioned that the Canvus park products were ordered. The purchase is being completed with Finance/Purchasing. All 10 Canvus items will be built and delivered later this Summer. Orsag then mentioned the following upcoming items, activities, and events:  - Benoit Prairie Preserve Workday: Held April 3, and had 12 Texas Master Naturalist volunteers help remove invasive species on the property. - Bay Area Plant Exchange Plant Swap: Held April 13, 800-900 people attended the event in the Civic Center parking lot. - Earth Day: Held April 22, and handed out 200 tree seedlings to the public at the Library. - Keep Texas Waterways Clean: Saturday, May 11, we will host a volunteer cleanup event at the Nature Center along Clear Creek. Currently, we have 65 people registered to volunteer. - Scenic City recertification was completed and submitted last week. - Eagle Scout Project will start this week at the 600 Walker Street Office - Xeriscape garden beds Several members of the group then had comments to share. Dave talked about Kinetic Art and if it would be possible to do something like that in League City. He also mentioned that we need to keep the mosaic artist (Liz) busy and continue to do additional projects with her. Dave also mentioned that he would be going to the social event at Butler’s Courtyard for the Battery Storage Business. Beth asked about what the hold-up was regarding the left turn lane project on the corner of SH 96 and SH 3. Richard told the group that the League City Patrons of the Parks and Arts Foundation recently held a couple of workshops at the Community Center. One focused on songwriting and had 20 in attendance while the other focused on Social Media and had 12 in attendance. The meeting was adjourned at 7:39 PM.
