Community Engagement Commission Minutes
November 16th, 2022– 6:00 PM
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting of the Community Engagement Commission was called to order on November 16th, 2022 at 6:01 PM.
ROLL CALL:

APPROVALS:
The motion was made to approve the October meeting minutes, with amendments, by Commissioner Saba. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Kosaka, and carried unanimously. Additionally, Commissioners Peters
and Asmus were motioned to be excused by Commissioner Saba. Commissioner Kosaka seconded the motion,
which carried unanimously, excusing both commissioners from this meeting.
CITIZEN COMMENTS:
No comments were made at this meeting.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
After brief discussion, the CEC Roles and Mission Statement were both unanimously approved after Commission-
er Bekkedahl motioned for approval, with Commissioner Darrow seconding the motion. Commissioner Saba addi-
tionally moved to accept Ordinance No. 277 as the bylaws for the commission going forward, which Commissioner
Darrow also seconded for approval. The motion carried unanimously.
ZenCity Demo Discussion– Commissioners briefly discussed the ZenCity demo that was provided to them on
Thursday, November 10th. Pros and cons were discussed amongst the commissioners present. David Goehner
offered to provide recorded demos of the previous services the commission has already been shown. Commis-
sioner Bekkedahl suggested maintain a spreadsheet as demos continue, to better track what is liked and disliked
by the commission.
Podcast Discussion– Commissioners continued on to discuss ideas for the City podcast. It was clarified by the
City Administrator, Mark McAvoy, that outside of providing ideas, that at this time the podcast would be staff run
and the commission would not be involved in production.
City Academy Discussion– Continuing, the commissioners and Mark McAvoy discussed the involvement of the
CEC within the City Academy. Once again, it was clarified that this would be a staff run venture, and the focus for
the CEC would be getting the message out about the City Academy once plans are more firmly set.
City Website Survey Discussion (Farmers Market Focused)- David Goehner presented some key results from
the Farmers Market survey regarding the City website. Some included a more user friendly City map and more
user friendly links to services such as permits and City events. Cleaning up the appearance of the website is also
an area of focus for David going forward.
CEC Visibility Discussion– Rounding out discussion, the commissioners took time to discuss ways to better get
their name and vision out to the community. Involvement with events such as Barefoot or WinterGlow were brought
up, as they are big draws for the community.
UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES:
David Goehner briefly mentioned that an Instagram page will hopefully be coming soon for the City.
NEXT UPCOMING MEETING:
The next meeting of the Community Engagement Commission will be December 14th, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business, and with unanimous approval, the meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM.
