Liberty Lake Municipal Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes March 5, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 10:32 AM. In attendance: Lu Embrey, Tricia Morgan, Pat Lutzenberger, Linda Dockrey, Katy Allen and Pamela Mogen. Linda moved and Lu seconded that the minutes from the February meeting be approved as read. Public Comments- None Mayor’s Comments- None City Report- City Manager Katy Allen reported that the City Council is working on amending the city’s sign code. They are considering three different areas: along I- 90, on Appleway and County Vista streets and also a sign for community events. They can approve one or all. A final decision will be made in September. Katy reminded the Board that we can submit an opinion on this issue to the council as it relates to the library. She also pointed out that the city’s financial health is good. Library Director’s Report- Pamela handed out the monthly report for February. The cash flow statement showed we have spent 17% of the yearly budget so far. Some adjustments to certain line items will have to be made-mostly likely from books or supplies. Pamela talked about the Library’s strategic plan. She shared the results from the Edge Initiative, a Gates Foundation program. It is a way to gauge your technology fitness. The results showed our library in the middle of the scale. Our librarians will be combing over the results and will try to find some easy fixes for now. They will also be looking for free solutions, if possible. She also reiterated the need for Focus Groups, and would like to begin this in May. We will be asking schools, service groups, businesses, Attorneys and such to send a representative to answer the question: “How does the Library fit into the future of Liberty Lake”? The Board will meet in a workshop on March 17 to discuss library trends and ideas. Pamela will email articles to us to study for this workshop. All our ideas will be the basis of our annual report to the City Council in May. Foundation Report- Rhett is working on the reinstatement of their 5O1c3 status. FOLLML Report- The Friends Valentine’s Day fundraiser went well and they are now working on the Spring Tea. City Council Report- None Other Business- Our By-Laws need to be changed to comply with the new Ordinance 119-B.
