Liberty Lake Municipal Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes January 18, 2018 1. The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m. In attendance were Lu Embrey, Mindy Howe, Carol Johns, Pamela Mogen, Linda Dockrey, Mike Kennedy, Katy Allen and Tricia Morgan 2. The minutes from the December 7, 2017 meeting were approved. 3. Comments Mike Kennedy, City Council member: attending to keep aware of what’s going on at the library. He is glad to see a library board representative at each city council meeting. Linda Dockrey, President of the Friends of the LL Library:  She is going to try some new things with the Friends group  Friends fundraising letter will be mailed out soon  Valentine basket silent auction late Jan./early Feb.  Meeting time has changed to last Wed of each month at 2:00; meetings are now family friendly – children are welcome. 4. Reports A. City Administrator – Katy Allen City council committee structure changes:  First Tues of each month at 5:30: council workshop for police, fire and library  Third Tues at 5:30: council workshop for finance, planning & building, parks and public projects  Strategic initiative workshops will identify key initiatives for LL B. Library Director – Pamela Mogen CIN meeting:  will start sending info to patrons by text message  electronic only library cards for in-house use only – we are considering this  CIN card – do we want to put our logo on them? High School 21 Plus Program – will help those over 21 get high school certification; other libraries in our area are interested; we will participate if there is a local need 2017 Annual Report Highlights  Volunteer hours up from 600 to 937  Non-library meeting reservations up from 58 to 150  Attendance of children at library programs up from 6064 to 10,141  Fee/fines collection up from $10,000 to $14,000  Library value calculator up from $1,473,952/3.2 times the library’s cost to $1,745,227/3.7 times the cost. C. FOLLML – Mindy Howe: already discussed by Linda Dockrey D. Foundation – Carol Johns – no report E. City Council – Tricia Morgan  HGTV filming in LL Jan 25-27  Valley Girl Triathlon moving to Medical Lake  Park & Arts Commission is looking for a student representative  Valley Citizen of the Year: LL Mayor Steve Peterson  LL is discussing joining the Centennial Trail Coordinating Council  City Attorney held training for Open Public Records Act and Open Public Meetings Act 5. Ongoing Business A. Recruitment of new library director  Board members will reach out to city council members individually  Lu will write questions for council members, Friends and library staff and bring to Feb 1 meeting  Results will be shared with the city towards the end of Feb.  Library staff will meet with a facilitator to formulate their thoughts B. Valentine Baskets for Friends Silent Auction Tricia is coordinating and will turn them in by Feb 24 6. Next meeting: February 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. 7.
