Library Board of Trustees Minutes April 13, 2022 Held Remotely Liberty Lake Municipal Library 1pm The meeting was called to order by Brad Hamblet at 1:01pm. In attendance: Tim Olsen, Brad Hamblet, Teresa Tapao-Hunt, Shawna Deane, Kim Girard (Trustees), Jandy Humble (Library Director), Jen Camp (Interim City Administrator) • Minutes from the March meeting were approved as published. • Public Comment – Sharon Carvo appreciative of the Board Of Trustees • Mikayla Kittilstved was introduced to the board. She is the new Teen & Adult Services Librarian Reports 1. City Administrator Report – • In June all commission meetings need to be in person and can offer a hybrid component if you chose. • Full roster of events planned for Summer 2022 • The city has hired a Communications Specialist David Goerner who can help advertise events. 2. Mayor Cris • Army National Guard is interested in building a facility on 32 acres of land near George Gee. Many amenities available to the public. • 4 possible candidates for the city administrator position. 3. Friends of the Library Report • Fundraisers for the Friends : Veterans Quilt. Friends are selling tickets to a drawing for the quilt. 3 tickets for $5 or 1 for $2. • Soiree Wednesday July 13th @ Liberty Lake Winery • Booksale will take place June 17&18th at the library 1. City Council Report • Book Reconsideration : The council voted 4 to 2 to retain Gender Queer in the library collection • City Engagement Commission is going to start attending the Farmers Market • Financials of the City – Tift & LIft • Spokane Fire gave a report • Discussing what to do with ARPA monies • Construction is everywhere 4. Director Report • Reviewed the Statistics Report • Library is looking into Wireless Printing Ongoing Business • Community Assessment Presentation – Brad & Jandy presented to council. They approved the library going out for a “Request for Proposals” (RFP) for an architect and professional organizer. Jandy will work with Lisa Key to get these proposal drafted. • Book Reconsideration Update – The Boards decision was upheld. The vote was 4 in favor and 2 against. The board will continue to thoroughly review the library’s collection development policy over the next few months. • Collection Development Policy Review: The board was sent several policies to look over. Jandy would like to add footnotes, RCWS, WAC or reference court cases to show why certain things are in the policy. Teresa and Shawna will assist Jandy with this. Will add section to define pornography and RCWS that reference minors rights in the library. Next month we will review the section on “Selecting Materials” Jandy will send out sample policies from other libraries for the board to review and provide feedback on. New Business • In Person Meetings – COVID requirements have changed. Meetings are required to be in person with an optional virtual component. The board would like to continue offering hybrid component. Next meeting will be held at City Hall in council chambers.
