THE CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE PARKS & ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MAY 1ST, 2019 - 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Laina Schutz called the meeting of the Parks and Arts Commission to order at 4:00 PM on May 1st, 2019. ROLL CALL: Commissioner David Himebaugh Commissioner Laina Schutz Commissioner Laura Frank Commissioner Bridgette Harris Commissioner Tom Chamberlain Adjunct Bob Schneidmiller Commissioner Tom Sahlberg Maintenance & Operations Director Jennifer Camp Commissioner Tom Stanley Activities & Events Maintenance Worker Anita Eylar Administrative Assistant Tait Hunter Student Commissioner Caleb Betts Unexcused Student Commissioner Katelyn Hansen Student Commissioner Natalie Alva Unexcused APPROVALS: Chair Laina Schutz moved to approve the minutes from April 17th, which Commissioner Sahlberg seconded. The motion carried unanimously. STAFF REPORT: Jennifer Camp, Operations & Maintenance Director, provided an update on the “dummy box” wrap project. The box already obtained is being considered for pickleball supplies storage. The Orchard Park soft opening was discussed, with the tentative date being June 15th. The last update given was regarding pole banners being explored by the Farmer’s Market team. Avista is unfortunately not able to accommodate for the flags, but the coming small cell poles may be an option for display. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Commissioner Harris updated the commission on the trash drum art project, noting that they will have at least 10 coming, and 5 for the opening of Orchard Park in June. Art suggestions are needed, as well as placement suggestions. PRESENTATIONS: Sunny Lynn, Liberty Lake Pickleball Ambassador, presented to the commission her desire to bring more pick- leball to Liberty Lake. She noted that Selkirk would be potentially willing to supply some basic supplies to the City/ pickleball organizations in the City. PRESENTATIONS CONTINUED: Mark Bitz spoke briefly on the progress of the Story Walk project, letting the commission know that some prices have changed, and that after a meeting with PCT, there may be the potential for some add-ons through them and easier re-ordering. He offered to come to the next meeting with more information. ACTION ITEMS: Information is still to come regarding the Pavillion mural project, so further discussion on that is on hold until more is known. The Utility Box project Call to Artists will be presented at the next coming meeting. The Goat Statue Call to Artists has been posted, so the commission requested that its members spread the word on social media to help get more applicants. CITIZEN COMMENTS: Larry Stoncert, Local Pickleball Group Member, would like to be a helping hand in the future striping projects done by the City to ensure proper line placement and give feedback. Anita Eylar, Activities & Events Maintenance Worker, let the commission know that more particiapants are needed for the upcoming Throw Down Cornhole Tournament. It was also mentioned that perhaps City staff could get involved with a team. MEETING ADJOURNMENT: The meeting concluded at 4:48 PM
