THE CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE PARKS & ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES JUNE 1ST, 2020 - 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Laina Schutz called the meeting of the Parks and Arts Commission to order at 4:02 PM on June 1st, 2020. ROLL CALL: Commissioner David Himebaugh Commissioner Laina Schutz Commissioner Laura Frank Commissioner Susan Morrow Commissioner Tom Chamberlain Adjunct Bob Schneidmiller Commissioner Tom Sahlberg Adjunct Kate Laven Commissioner Tom Stanley Maintenance & Operations Director Jennifer Camp Student Commissioner Srikar Surapaneni Activities & Events Maintenance Worker Anita Eylar Administrative Assistant Tait Hunter APPROVALS: Commissioner Sahlberg made the motion to approve the May 18th meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Himebaugh and carried unanimously. CITIZEN COMMENTS: No citizen comments were made at this meeting. STAFF REPORT: Jennifer Camp provided an update on the fireworks event, noting that while the event will continue on, people will be discouraged from gathering in the park to watch. They will instead be invited to watch from home, from their cars, or from open areas away from other people. Katy Allen provided a COVID update to the commission, highlighting the funds the City received ($330,000.00) towards COVID cleaners, sanitizing products, and a local business PPE distribution. The local distribution would be solely for Liberty Lake businesses, and would provide said businesses will cleaning supplies, masks, and sanitizers. As for our facility re-openings, we are waiting for Phase 3 (this includes the Library). She finished her update by noting that the Farmers Market will be opening June 6th. UNFINISHED & NEW BUSINESS: The commission briefly discussed the new mural at Pavillion Park. They noted that it went in successfully and looked great so far. Rein updated the commission on the progress of the latest Story Walk project. She mentioned that due to COVID shutting them down, the project will likely be finished by March of 2021. ACTION ITEMS: The commission discussed what to do for future wrap projects. After discussing the use of remaining submissions, the commission decided to hold off on any decisions until schools open again, as times are uncertain. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting concluded at 4:37 PM.
