Fox Valley Metro Police Department Police Commission Meeting Minutes August 5, 2019 Present Commissioners: Bill Van Berkel (entered at 7:05pm) Scott Schommer Jason Nate Jason Weber Sue Brown Mark Verhagen Dept. Members: Daniel Meister , Chief of Police Kelly Vanden Heuvel, Administrative Manager Public: None The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm and roll call was taken. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Mark Verhagen to approve the minutes from the May 7, 2019 meeting. Jason Nate seconded the motion. The motion carried, 4-0. Public Appearances to Address the Police Commission None Chief’s Report Chief Meister reported that Officers Lambie and Steeber have resigned from the department; the recruitment process is underway. FVMPD will be hosting a National Night Out event on August 6th from 5pm – 8pm at Sunset Park in Kimberly. Officers took part in the Police Lights of Christmas fundraiser at Pizza Ranch; an additional Police Lights of Christmas fundraiser will be held at Culvers in the fall. The weather incident in July and subsequent backup power generator failure caused computer server damage; an insurance claim is currently being processed through the Village of Little Chute. There have been preliminary communications between Chief, administrators, and the labor union regarding negotiating the labor agreement; the current agreement expires at the end of 2019. 2020 Budget Planning has started. IT costs, server replacement and fleet upkeep/keeping fleet current are some of the larger items being accounted for during this process. Commission President Communications None Closed Session A motion was made by Jason Nate to adjourn to closed session. Sue Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried, 4–0. A motion was made by Mark Verhagen to return to open session. Sue Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried, 5-0. Action from Closed Session All candidates for the two Patrol Officer positions were approved. The next Police Commission Meeting will be at 6:00pm on Tuesday, November 12 in the Aspen/Birch room at the Village of Kimberly Municipal Complex.
