Fox Valley Metro Police Department Police Commission Meeting Minutes February 11, 2020 Commissioners Present: Scott Schommer Bill Van Berkel Sue Brown Mark Verhagen Excused: Jason Weber Jason Nate Dept. Members: Daniel Meister , Chief of Police Kelly Vanden Heuvel, Administrative Manager Public: None The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm and roll call was taken. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Mark Verhagen to approve the minutes from the November 6, 2019 meeting. Bill Van Berkel seconded the motion. The motion carried, 3-0. Public Appearances to Address the Police Commission None Chief’s Report • Officer Daniel Thorson has served the Villages of Little Chute and Kimberly for the past 30 years, first on the Kimberly Police Department and then with Metro when the joint department was formed. • The department has ordered the new squad, as approved in the 2020 budget. The squad is a hybrid model which will save wear and tear on the motor, provide fuel cost savings, and have a lighter impact on the environment. • The CSO hiring process is underway. The goal is to have two hired with a start date the second week of March. The squad for the CSO is being reset with new graphics and amber and red lights. • The crossing guards were recognized with a donut social on January 17th as part of Adult Crossing Guard Appreciation Week. Commission President Communications For all future Police Commission meetings, members of the public who wish to address the Police Commission will each be allotted a five-minute speaking period. Closed Session A motion was made by Bill Van Berkel to adjourn to closed session at 6:19pm. Sue Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried, 3–0. A motion was made by Bill Van Berkel to return to open session at 6:44pm. Mark Verhagen seconded the motion. The motion carried, 3-0. Action from Closed Session No action on closed session required. The next Police Commission Meeting will be at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in the Little Chute Board Room at the Little Chute Village Hall, 108 W Main Street, Little Chute.
