Fox Valley Metro Police Department Police Commission Meeting Minutes November 10, 2020 Commissioners Present: Scott Schommer Sue Brown Mark Verhagen Jason Weber Bill Van Berkel Excused: Jason Nate Dept. Members: Daniel Meister , Chief of Police Kelly Vanden Heuvel, Administrative Manager Public: None The meeting was called to order at 6:01 pm and roll call was taken. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Mark Verhagen to approve the minutes from the July 21, 2020 meeting. Jason Weber seconded the motion. The motion carried, 4-0. Public Appearances to Address the Police Commission None Chief’s Report • 2021 Budget passed to include 2 sergeant (intermediate, frontline supervisory) positions starting July 1, 2021. This will increase on shift, supervisory coverage from 47% to 86%. • The budget also includes additional hours for the CSO position. The CSO position has received positive feedback from the officers and community. • A new squad, building sign showing “Metro Police”, and updated body cameras are also budgeted for next year. • New Officer Tyler Marquardt has started field training. • The Metro K9 Foundation is up and running. Due to Covid-19, there haven’t been a lot of community events but they are making public appearances as they can and have their Facebook and website active. • Discussions with the Union are currently underway regarding both the K9 and the sergeant positions. • Training looked very differently this year with all the cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. • Calls for service have dropped off from Eugene Court in Kimberly since the abatement process was started. Commission President Communications None Closed Session A motion was made by Bill Van Berkel to adjourn to closed session. Sue Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried, 4–0. A motion was made by Mark Verhagen to return to open session. Bill Van Berkel seconded the motion. The motion carried, 4-0. Action from Closed Session Board agrees to utilize the local technical colleges for recruitment in addition to WILEnet. Schedule of the Next Police Commission Meeting The next Police Commission Meeting will be at 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in the S1/S2 Rooms at the Village of Little Chute Civic Center, 625 Grand Ave, Little Chute.
