BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Over the past few years, the City has experienced several “atmospheric river events”. These once rare, but significant rainfall events have tested the City’s existing network of pipes, basins and pump stations on a more frequent basis. Staff will provide Council with an overview of the City’s storm drain system and current design standards; outline the impacts of more compact development on the storm drain system; and discuss potential long-term solutions for addressing climate change as it relates to providing appropriate storm drain service.
