Next Meeting  Lodi Commi(ee on Homelessness Statement of Purpose Introduc)on: During its first five years of work trying to mi4gate and reduce homelessness, the LCOH listened to many voices, researched possible solu4ons, experimented with new ideas, received support from many community members, and met resistance from others. The LCOH also developed an even stronger partnership with the City of Lodi which itself was developing a stronger rela4onship with county-wide efforts to address homelessness. As circumstances both in leadership and context have changed, the following is a re-statement of the CommiFee’s purpose going into the future. The purposes of the LCOH is quickly characterized in three words: connect, collaborate and communicate. Connect: 1. Provide current informa4on regarding community resources for the homeless to local service providers, humanitarian and faith-based groups, local law enforcement and the homeless themselves. 2. Provide a forum in which local service providers can share informa4on about programs. 3. Refer residents who wish to help the homeless to the appropriate local service providers. 4. Assist the LPD homeless liaison officer in his/her efforts to connect the local homeless to exis4ng services in the City and the County. 5. Take responsibility for coordina4ng and collabora4ng with service providers of the homeless in Lodi. Collaborate: 1. Ensure that local solu4ons and responses are consistent with county-wide and Con4nuum of Care guidelines and priori4es. 2. Work with and par4cipate with exis4ng county-wide homelessness solu4ons and partnerships and funding opportuni4es. 3. Encourage the City to con4nue to collaborate with and support the Con4nuum of Care. Communicate: 1. Advocate and garner public support for local ini4a4ves and projects to serve the homeless.  2. In coopera4on with the City, develop and disseminate FAQ statements regarding local projects. 3. Educate residents and community leaders about homelessness, share stories about successful efforts and programs. 4. Respond in a 4mely manner to statements with misinforma4on regarding the homeless and/or proposals and programs to address homelessness. And Finally: To be successful in carrying out these purposes requires another factor: commitment. And what has made the CommiFee successful in the past holds true for the future. First is a shared commitment to the no4on that homelessness is a complicated problem that cannot be remedied solely by humanitarian efforts or law enforcement. Homelessness is both a public health issue and a public safety issue. Second is a commitment to ac4ve par4cipa4on by members of the CommiFee. Par4cipa4on includes many opportuni4es; here are a few: serving on a sub-commiFee or task force of the CommiFee (Point in Time Count, for example), taking responsibility for a specific duty or role (development and distribu4on of the resource guide), research and development of a specific program (ABC job training program), par4cipa4ng in the Con4nuum of Care (board and/or commiFee member), represen4ng the City of Lodi on the county-wide Emergency Food and Shelter Board. Certainly, working on a local Communica4ons Team is another high priority need iden4fied at an earlier mee4ng.
