Next Meeting Lodi Committee on Homelessness (LCOH) Sub-Committee Draft Proposal Sub-Committee Name: Church Community Engagement Purpose: To educate and engage the churches of Lodi and the surrounding community about the work of the LCOH. Sub-Committee Composition: 2-3 members Goals of this Sub-Committee: a. To provide a Biblical understanding of the need to care for the homeless. b. To provide insight into the reasons and causes of homelessness. c. To provide up-to-date information on how the county and the city continues to address the problem of homelessness and where local churches can fit into their efforts. d. To share success stories where homeless individuals have accessed resources to overcome addiction and mental illness, accessed job training and employment, and transitioned to permanent housing. e. To share about the on-going challenges of meeting the needs of the homeless. f. To invite church attendees to participate in local meetings that discuss how the needs of the homeless are being addressed. g. To encourage church/personal involvement in opportunities that strive to meet the needs of the homeless. Sub-Committee Responsibilities & Plan of Action: Sub-Committee members would: a. Meet with church mission committees or related committees. b. Create and maintain an email list of church attendees who wish to receive information about the work and needs of the LCOH. c. Share LCOH information at local pastor gatherings. d. Share LCOH information at a local church Sunday gathering. LCOH Communication and Public Relations Sub-Committee Proposal Purpose – to educate and inform the community about what is being done to address the issue of homelessness in Lodi, leading to greater understanding and involvement by the community. This could take the form of a monthly article/newsletter, including stories/updates/interviews/upcoming events/volunteer and material needs. Another form of communication could be an occasional letter to the editor to be published in the local newspaper. I could write the articles with content provided by others, such as service providers or other entities. If others prefer to do the writing, I can edit for clarity if needed, but everything would come from a single source. Distribution would be on individual social media pages – the material would be emailed to a list of individuals who would then post and encourage sharing. A reasonable goal would be to publish one news story/letter/article per month.  Lodi Committee on Homelessness (LCOH) Meeting Notes Thursday April 4th, 2024 2:30 In person LPD Community Room The meeting was called to order by Kelsey Dillard. Individuals present introduced themselves and the agency they represent. LDP Liaison Officer’s Report- (Officer Christian)- Christian reported they have been moving the same 10-15 individuals around. They rotate around the softball complex, Main Street, and Lockford Street. Sub-Committees • Mission Statement – (Bill Moersch, Lisa Shinn, and Lisa Hill)- Bill shared the Mission Statement. After discussion, it was decided to remove the statement “addiction and food insecurity” The committee approved the Mission Statement. • COC Meeting – (Calvin Young and Gary Kapic)- Calvin was not present. Kathryn shared that Calvin attended the COC meeting in person and both Calvin and Gary plan to continue. • Homeless Outreach – (Kathryn Siddle, Jerry Roland and Shannon Bowles)- Kathryn shared that acknowledgement was received from San Joaquin County that the homeless outreach team needs more support from CDCC (Chemical dependency Counseling). Anthony Grandon suggested a person who is formally homeless join the team. Anthony volunteered to join the Homeless Outreach sub-committee. • Shared Event Calendar- (Kelsey Dillard)- Kelsey reported she has created a Google Sheets document to be shared with the committee for viewing. When members have dates to add, email them to her and she will update the document. The purpose is to provide a resource for the committee to reference when interested in opportunities to help. • Churches Community Engagement – (Steve Opp)- Steve was not present. Kelsey read Steve’s proposal to the committee. It was suggested to change the committee title to “Faith Community Engagement” to be inclusive. Bob Oates, Jerry Roland and Lisa Shinn volunteered to join this sub-committee. • Communication and Public Relations – (Linda Opp)- Linda was not present. Kelsey read Linda’s proposal to the committee. Melissa Taylor volunteered to join this sub- committee. • Other Sub-Committees? o Lodi City Council Support- Lisa Hill, Jerry Roland and Don Bradford volunteered to be on this sub-committee and attend the City Council meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. City of Lodi Report – (John Della Monica / Jennifer Rhyne)- John reported the contract was approved for the Main Street Project Transitional Housing, and Inner City Action will be running it. Inner City Action Access Center – (Corinna)- Corinna reported many client successes from March including education, immigration, transportation, housing, and employment. Zoom Continuation – Kelsey asked the committee if we want to continue using Zoom for the meeting. Kathryn offered the use of the zoom account login for LCOH. Officer Christian offered to help set up Zoom in future meetings. Other items – • Salvation Army- John Narvaez reported client successes from March including housing, reunited with family, culinary graduate employment, donated resources for client. Salvation Army Hope • Showered with Love Fundraiser- Kathryn reported that support is needed for Showered with Love, they do not have the funds to continue the program without donations. The fundraiser is May 11th at 5pm at the Goodmills Winery. • Prop 1- A question was asked about funding from Prop 1. Jonathan Vickrey shared that it will be some time before the funding is provided, counties have to create comprehensive funding plans.
