BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In accordance with the bylaws if the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary are elected by the members thereof by a majority vote of all the members. The term of office of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary shall be a one-year term providing they meet the meeting and participation requirements. The Chairperson and Vice Chairperson were elected at the Special Meeting October 17, 2022. Commission shall nominate and elect a Secretary for the 2022/23 school year. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The annual Pigskin Dance was held at the Hutchins Street Square on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Approximately 1,000 students attended. Commissioners shall discuss the pros and cons of the event details and shall recommend changes for next year’s event. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi is currently recruiting for its first Poet Laureate. A Poel Laureate supports literacy programs and foster appreciation for poetry and its benefits. The Lodi Library reached out to Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) to provide a literary event for teens during April National Poetry Month. Commissioners shall discuss collaborating with the new Poet Laureate and Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) on hosting a Teen Poetry Slam Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Hutchins Street Square in the Thomas Theater. Commissioners shall; • Establish a Poetry Slam Subcommittee o Set up meeting with the Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) president by January 15, 2023 o Discuss Marketing efforts; flyers, social media, website, emails, posters/flyers o Finding an MC for event o Setup and cleanup crews o Coordinating with theatre techs o Volunteers and assignments o Refreshments The Commission shall select a subcommittee to help plan the event with the TAB. Subcommitte members shall share their progress at future meetings. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission (LYC) serves high school students living within the Lodi Unified School District (LUSD) boundaries. The purpose of the LYC is to develop engaging programs that provide entertainment, recreation, personal development and promote volunteerism. The Commission provides safe, fun, and/or educational events for youth in the LUSD area. The Commission discussed hosting various service projects and events for the 2022/2023 school year at their Special Meeting on September 26, 2022. The Commission chose to focus their time and efforts on hosting the following; • Pigskin – November • Casino Night – February • Love Lodi – April • Backpack Drive – undetermined The Commission shall discuss establishing a subcommittee for the remaining 2 events, Casino Night and Love Lodi, choose a date for Casino Night, and propose when to do the Backpack Drive.
