We gathered to meet, but decided to begin the Bid Ticket sales for the safety of the high schoolers who were all sitting in the lobby of Hutchins Street Square, it was” MOB” like. No public to comment on non-agenda items D. Action Items, there was a vote to wait to nominate and elect the Secretary for the Lodi Youth Commission. It was a 5 yay to 2 Nay vote to wait until the next meeting to nominate and elect the Secretary for the 2022-2023 school year E. Regular Agenda-Discussion items F-1 Post Pigskin Details • Tickets sales were discussed • Bid scams, and how to prevent next year, ticket pull, cashier, and the checking in process at the door • Music, and playlists should be turned in a month before pigskin to hired DJ • Number of students that attended, asked if we should sell less bids • Snack items, water, and more choices, but no fruit snacks • Air flow and Hot students, propping the doors open, looking for solutions • Revenue, expenditures, and profits were discussed F-2 Poetry Slam • Elijah will reach out to Alice the Teen Advisory Board President for the Library • They will create a subcommittee to put this event on at the Square, it will be a collaborate effort F-3 Service Projects and Events • Casino Night was discussed • Gathering donations by letter and gifts for baskets for Casino Night • Sadie Hawkins Dance Possibly • Love Lodi was mentioned F. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In accordance with the bylaws if the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary are elected by the members thereof by a majority vote of all the members. The term of office of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary shall be a one-year term providing they meet the meeting and participation requirements. The Chairperson and Vice Chairperson were elected at the Special Meeting October 17, 2022. Commission shall nominate and elect a Secretary for the 2022/23 school year. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi is currently recruiting for its first Poet Laureate. A Poel Laureate supports literacy programs and foster appreciation for poetry and its benefits. The Lodi Library reached out to Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) to provide a literary event for teens during April National Poetry Month. Commissioners shall discuss collaborating with the new Poet Laureate and Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) on hosting a Teen Poetry Slam Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Hutchins Street Square in the Thomas Theater. Commissioners shall; • Establish a Poetry Slam Subcommittee o Set-up meeting with the Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) president by January 15, 2023 o Discuss Marketing efforts; flyers, social media, website, emails, posters/flyers o Find an MC for event o Setup and cleanup crews o Coordinate with theatre techs o Create volunteer assignments o Refreshments The Commission shall select a subcommittee to help plan the event with the TAB. Subcommitte members shall share their progress at future meetings. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Lodi Youth Commission provides a safe, fun environment for our youth to get together and celebrate time together. The Commission will host Casino Night at Hutchins Street Square. The last Casino Night was held on May 6, 2022 in Kirst Hall. In previous years, it was held the last Friday of February. Staff recommend that the Commission hold their annual Casino Night on February 24, 2023, 7:00-10:00pm. Kirst Hall has been secured for the evening. Additional dates available are March 3 and March 10. Tickets shall be $20 per student. Tickets can be purchased online beginning February 1, 2023 with a credit card. Tickets can also be purchased at the HSS Box Office M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm with cash or credit beginning February 1, 2023. Students must provide their student ID to enter the event regardless if they’ve already purchased a ticket. A limited number of tickets may be purchased at the door. The Commission shall discuss; • Date • Duties and assignments for Commissioners • Donation Letter, gift items for prizes • Parent Volunteers • Refreshments and snack • Discuss ways Commissioners and staff will market event All Commissioners are expected to participate in the planning and implementation of the event over the next 2 months. The following timeline will need to be strictly followed; Date Task 1/9 Staff will provide details on the status of the tables, DJ, photo booth, snacks purchased 1/9 Commissioners will receive donation letter, share ideas where they will solicit donations 1/10-2/13 Solicit volunteers and donations 2/13 February Youth Commission meeting- final meeting before event 2/17 All donations must be submitted 2/20-2/22 All donations/gifts wrapped and prepared; need volunteers to assist 2/23 Decorate and set-up after school: establish a time to decorate FUNDING CONSIDERATION OR IMPACT: None  GREATER LODI AREA YOUTH COMMISSION COMMUNICATION TO: Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission DATE OF MEETING: December 12, 2022 FROM: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager SUBJ: Discuss Service Projects and Events for the 2022/2023 School Year TYPE ACTION NEEDED: Discussion PREPARED BY: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discuss service projects and events for the 2022/2023 school year. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The purpose of the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission is to develop engaging programs that provide entertainment, recreation, personal development and promote volunteerism. The current events this year include(d) Pigskin, November 12, 2022 and Casino Night (date TBD). The Commission shared several ideas for community service projects including a backpack drive, assisting Love Lodi, a shoe box distribution, and a pet pal program socializing pets. The Commission shall choose one community service project to be done in March or May, that benefit a particular cause or group of individuals in Lodi, keeping in mind the planning necessary for Casino Night in February and the Teen Poetry Slam in April, along with school events like spring break, proms and graduations. The Commission shall answer the questions, “What does Lodi need? Who in Lodi needs assistance? What are some of the issues facing residents of Lodi today? How can I impact the lives of people in Lodi?” If the Commission chooses to do a backpack drive as discussed at a previous meeting, Staff recommend the Commission partner with a child advocacy group (i.e. Lodi Adopt-a-Child) to create a creative way to collect backpacks in July 2023 before the 2023/2024 school year.
