LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES– REGULAR MEETING
LODI PUBLIC LIBRARY Date: January 14, 2019

Note: All staff reports or other written documentation relating to each item of business referred to on the agenda are on file in the Lodi
Public Library, located at 201 W. Locust Street, Lodi, and are available for public inspection. If requested, the agenda shall be made

of 1990 (42 U.S.C. Sec. 12132), and the federal rules and regulations adopted in implementation thereof. To make a request for disability-

Trustees present – Frankie Kooger, Scot Martin, Terry Costa, and Caitlin Casey
Trustees absent – David Main
Also present – City Manager Steve Schwabauer, City Attorney Janice Magdich, Human Resources Manager
Adele Post, Library Director Anwan Baker, Friends board president Becky Hamner, and various library staff.

3. Announcement of Closed Session - Conference with Legal Counsel – Exposure to Litigation – Significant
exposure to litigation pursuant to Gov. Code §54956.9(e)(1), shall not be disclosed due to facts and
circumstances not yet known to potential plaintiffs.

a. Library Revenue & Expense Reports – Director Baker
Library budget is on track.
b. Private Sector (Trustees’) Investments Report – Director Baker
No discussion
c. Library Director’s Report – Director Baker
Slow December library staff has focused on customer service and weeding of the library collection. Blood
borne pathogen training for library staff will take place, although library staff does not find a lot of needles
we still would like to provide training.
Working on updating “unattended children” left in the library the current policy is not clear.
Discussed the new Patron Suspension Form with the city attorney and city manager, currently the
appeals process (city wise) does not include the library. The new policy will include the library.

a. Friends of Lodi Public Library– S. Seegmiller
Friend president Becky Hamner reported the following:
4532 hours of volunteering for the Friends.
In 2018 had a revenue of $57,701, Library program totaled $33, 008, $5,000 Friends costs. In
total $37,706 was spent to support the library.
This is the 40th year the Friends of the Lodi Public Library has supported the library. They have
donated hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years.
Currently the Friends are offering new bookstore patrons a $1.00 off coupon.
The Friends will work with library staff member Yvette Herrera to get a library card in all students
hands.

a. Discuss and approve changes to the Dress Code
The name of the Dress Code policy has been changed to Personal Appearance Code. HR Manager
Adele Post commented that she has reviewed the new policy and finds it be fine.
Trustee F. Kooger motioned to accept item 8a as written, Trustee T. Costa second – motion carries.
