Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting

City of Loganville Planning & Development MINUTES Planning Commission Business Meeting Thursday, August 23, 2012 Municipal Council Chambers In attendance: Planning & Development, Tim Prater; Planning Commission Chairperson, Ed Warren; Planning Commissioners: Sonny Medlin, Barbara Forrester, Steven Landers, Arno Angulo and R.C. Shanks. Bruce Granoff was absent. Administrative Assistant, Nina Ramsey recorded the minutes.  Ed Warren called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Invocation given by Sonny Medlin  Pledge to the Flag  A motion was made by R.C. Shanks and seconded by Barbara Forrester to approve the April 26, 2012 minutes. Motion carried 5 – 0. Tim Prater presented the following case: Case #R12 – 004 Thomas W. Carter filed an application requesting to rezone 1.38+/- acres located at 4208 Lawrenceville Road, Map/Parcel #LG04-47A, Walton County, Georgia from CH to R-44. The property owner is Thomas W. Carter. Mr. Carter was present. Mr. Carter stated that he could go either way with the zoning. He said he had 4 or 5 parcels he would like to put together to bring the taxes down. Mr. Warren asked Mr. Carter if he realized that CH was the correct zoning according to the Future Land Use Map. Mr. Carter said he realized that; however at this point he didn’t want to sell unless he sold additional property with it. Mr. Warren said he personally did not want to see the zoning go back and forth especially since it was already zoned according to the land use map. Barbara Forrester asked Mr. Carter if he lived in the white house abutting the property. Mr. Carter said he lived in the brick house behind it. He said he had 4 or 5 tracts he would like to put together because it would simplify things should anything happen to him, or if he sold it, but he didn’t want to sell it right now. Arno Angulo asked if he had plans to put a building on the property. Mr. Carter said he had thought about it but given the demographics and it being so close to his house he decided against it. A motion was made by Barbara Forrester and seconded by R.C. Shanks to deny the rezone. Motion carried 4 – 1 with Arno Angulo opposing; therefore the recommendation is to deny the rezone. A motion was made by Steven Landers and seconded by Barbara Forrester to adjourn.
