VILLAGE OF LONE ROCK LONE ROCK, WISCONSIN Lone Rock Economic Development Committee MEETING NOTES Monday, February 27, 2023 In attendance: Lisa Evans (Resident), Elizabeth Gieck (Secretary), Mary Litviak (Committee Chair, L.R. Trustee), Troy Maggied, (Executive Director, SWRPC) Christa Quinn (L.R. employee, EMS and resident), Dan Quinn (L.R. Village President, Fire Dept.), and Millie Rott (Chairperson, L.R. Planning and Zoning Commission). The agenda was sent out via email prior to the meeting. Mary opened the meeting at 6:03 PM at the Lone Rock Village Office. The new Lone Rock logo was presented to the group. It’s first application will be on the village’s new website due for release this Spring. The page will have a listing of committee members, local businesses, village properties for sale, a link to the comprehensive plan, village goals, committee agendas and notes. It’s important that this group has a mission statement and after some discussion, it was decided that it will be: “The Lone Rock Economic Development Committee is a group of community volunteers, made up of citizens, community leaders and business owners who focus on coming together to discuss ideas and make recommendations about how to make Lone Rock become a better place to live, visit and work.” Comprehensive Plan Progress Troy Maggied distributed a copy of the village’s action plan for accomplishing the goals in the comprehensive plan. There was some discussion about parks and recreation opportunities. Some information was shared about local programs and educational series that are being offered through the Connect Communities program. Letters of support were requested by the village for the state grant called, “Pedestrian Safety Program.” Lone Rock is currently seeking the funding of a new pedestrian sidewalk along Highway 130, starting at Union and ending at Highway 14 at the Dollar General. Troy said he would write a letter and send it to the Clerk during the week. Mary has already sent one. The village ordinances will be part of the website in PDF format. However, the Planning & Zoning Commission still needs to approve their part of the ordinances as they were submitted by our village attorney who updated them. After some discussion, a meeting was proposed to be set up on Thursday morning, April 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the village hall, that will include Millie Rott, the Planning & Zoning Committee members, Troy Maggied, Alan Harvey (ordinance attorney) and our village building inspector who will be invited to assist to help review the zoning ordinances for clarity. Historical Walkway Millie reported that there hasn’t been anything done yet as far as construction of the memorial walk archway that was approved last year by the board to be installed just outside the Community Center. It will consist of two brick pillars with a metal arch above that attaches to the two pillars. She will follow up with the Alumni Committee and others to create a building plan for this year, to begin when the weather becomes warmer so construction can begin. River Valley Housing Coalition Stef Morrill at River Valley Commons reported that they did not get the Federal grant for funding new housing in the River Valley Community. After some discussion, the committee agreed to invite Julie Jensen to come out and talk to us about how Lone Rock and the SGACC can work together. There was no further business.
