Councilwoman Zendejas is the first Latina wheelchair user to be elected to office in the nation and uses her platform to advocate for accessibility and inclusion for everyone. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 8 - Jeremy Hill, Victor Garate, Chris Karadjov, Jennifer Kumiyama, Gretchen Swanson, Kim Vuong, Stephen Adams and Nubia Flores STANDING COMMITTEES AND AD-HOC REPORTS 2. 21-041CA Recommendation to receive and file monthly report from the Accessibility, Transportation and Services standing committee. Attachments: ATS Report.July 2021.pdf Commissioner Garate reported that the ATS standing committee met on July 2nd at 11:10am and discussed 6 items: 1) accessible beach mats 2) the Cities for All Global Initiative introduced to City Council by Councilwoman Zendejas 3) a transportation fair; discussion around vendors and possible collaboration with LA County Commission on Disabilities 4) a presentation from LB Airport about accessibility elements 5) scooters in the public right-of-way; Commissioner Vuong will reach out to Heather Van Wijk 6) a possible presentation from LBUSD on accessibility in the built environments for student with mobility disabilities The meeting concluded at 11:51am. A motion was made by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Hill, to approve recommendation. Attachments: YEP Report.July 2021.pdf Commissioner Swanson reported that the YEP standing committee met on June 10th and June 24th, joined by Heather Van Wijk. The committee has been actively meeting with councilmembers to discuss equity in public spaces; so far have met with council districts 1, 2 and 9. These meetings have been very positive and insightful. Commissioner Swanson also reported how encouraged the committee is that the city council approved next steps in signing on to the Cities for All Initiative, lifting up how this initiative aligns with the commission's goal of equity in public spaces. A motion was made by Secretary Vuong, seconded by Vice Chair Adams, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 8 - Jeremy Hill, Victor Garate, Chris Karadjov, Jennifer Kumiyama, Gretchen Swanson, Kim Vuong, Stephen Adams and Nubia Flores 4. 21-043CA Recommendation to receive and file report from the Disability History Day 2021 Event ad-hoc committee. Commissioner Kumiyama reported that this ad-hoc met on June 24th to continue discussions around Disability History Day. The event will include City departments; more details will be provided next month. Cynde Soto, CD1 resident, gave her support for this event during public comment. A motion was made by Vice Chair Adams, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, to approve recommendation. Chair Flores reported that there is no report. A motion was made by Commissioner Garate, seconded by Commissioner Hill, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 8 - Jeremy Hill, Victor Garate, Chris Karadjov, Jennifer Kumiyama, Gretchen Swanson, Kim Vuong, Stephen Adams and Nubia Flores REGULAR AGENDA 6. 21-046CA Recommendation for the Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities to start meeting in-person again in the Long Beach Civic Chamber the 2nd Thursday of the month beginning with the August 12, 2021 meeting. A motion was made by Vice Chair Adams, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, to approve recommendation. Commissioner Adams reported that there was an opportunity to host this event and that a follow-up meeting with the superintendent of Cabrillo High School would occur in August. This event will take place in conjunction with the LB Unity Festival. There will be more information reported at the August CACoD. A motion was made by Commissioner Karadjov, seconded by Commissioner Hill, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 8 - Jeremy Hill, Victor Garate, Chris Karadjov, Jennifer Kumiyama, Gretchen Swanson, Kim Vuong, Stephen Adams and Nubia Flores 8. 21-048CA Recommendation to elect a new secretary, vice chair and chair for the 2021-2022 Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities. The new 2021-2022 CACoD Executive Committee will be: Jennifer Kumiyama, Chair Victor Garate, Vice Chair Gretchen Swanson, Secretary A motion was made by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Garate, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Jeremy Hill, Victor Garate, Jennifer Kumiyama, Gretchen Swanson, Kim Vuong, Stephen Adams and Nubia Flores Absent: 1 - Chris Karadjov Page 6 of 8 CITY OF LONG BEACH THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2021 CITIZENS' ADVISORY TELECONFERENCE, 1:00 PM COMMISSION ON DISABILITIES MINUTES STAFF REPORT Heather Van Wijk reported: 1) the LB Convention Center vaccine site will be demobilizing by August 2 2) 11 new Covid-19 pop-up vaccine sites have been added Citywide 3) 70% of Long Beach adults have received at least one vaccine shot 4) the City has signed on to the Cities for All Global Compact 5) 10/12 of our public libraries are now open to the public (learning labs and CAT will reopen later in the summer) 6) City Council meetings are now open to the public 7) City Council will request a feasibility study for accessible beach mats at the July 13, 2021 council meeting 8) Vice Mayor Richardson will agendize the 31st Anniversary of the ADA for the June 20, 2021 council meeting. This item will include an update by CACoD. 9) the August CACoD meeting will include a presentation from 911 Dispatch/Disaster Prep AGENCY REPORTS Commissioner Garate reported that LB Dial-A-Lift is still offering vaccine appointments for the LB Convention Center. Commissioner Hill reported that the US Access Board is having a virtual meeting on July 14th from 1-3 pm EST to discuss accessible gym equipment. Commissioner Kumiyama reported that the Disabled Resources Center is having their 45th annual gala on Thursday, July 22.
