President Arias requested to revise narrative notes for agenda item # 7. Therefore, meeting minutes of July 19, 2017 was approved subject to revising the language in item # 7. A motion was made by Commissioner Hicks, seconded by Commissioner Perry, to approve recommendation. REGULAR AGENDA 8. 17-160CS RECOMMENDATION FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT - Anna Lopez, Payroll/Personnel Assistant II Communication from Mariel Sipman, Administrative Officer, Fire Department Ms. Slaten briefed the Commission regarding this request. Ms. Sipman was present to answer the questions of the Commission. President Arias asked whether the position was recruited only among the Clerk Typists of the Fire Department. Ms. Sipman said, yes. President Arias asked how many Fire Department Clerk Typists were recruited, and Ms. Sipman said there were nine Clerk Typists. A motion was made by Commissioner Perry, seconded by Vice President Smith Watts, to approve recommendation. Ms. Mills from Police Department was present to answer any questions. President Arias asked how many candidates were interviewed for the position. Ms. Mills said that five candidates were interviewed. Ms. Mills also stated that the selection process was quick to be in accordance with a contract agreement between the City of Long Beach and Metro. Ms. Mills informed the Commission that Ms. Alvarez was present to answer any questions. Ms. Mills also said that Ms. Alvarez was overqualified for the position, and the department was lucky to have Ms. Alvarez. A motion was made by Commissioner Hicks, seconded by Vice President Smith Watts, to approve recommendation. OCEAN BLVD. 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM MANAGERS’ REPORT Recruitment & Selection Special Projects Administration Support Services Executive Director Special Projects: Ms. McDonald informed the Commission that she was working on the ERP Committee Decision Point Packet. Ms. McDonald stated the Committee is in the process of deciding whether to use Tyler Munis or NEOGOV as the performance evaluation system. Ms. McDonald mentioned that in addition, she was working on the requisition project. Recruitment & Selection: Ms. Slaten informed the Commission that Ms. Taylor-Sherwood is currently at IPMA-HR conference in Ohio. Ms. Slaten updated the Commission regarding upcoming examinations. Ms. Slaten also updated the Commission regarding the eligible lists that will be established soon. Ms. Slaten thanked the Airport and the Water Department for their assistance in proctoring examinations. Ms. Slaten stated that she is waiting for a proposal from the Long Beach City College. The proposal is regarding utilizing a testing center at LBCC which has approximately twenty computers. Ms. Slaten stated that the LBCC also has test proctors who will assist in proctoring the examinations. Ms. Slaten stated that by using the LBCC testing center and the Technology and Innovation Department computer room in the City Hall, they can expedite the Civil Service Department examinations process. Ms. Slaten stated that next week, she will be participating in a two-day community outreach program conducted by Long Beach Police Department to outreach to the students of the Long Beach Unified School District. Ms. Slaten mentioned that this event will be held with the colloboration of the Harbor Department and the Human Resources Department to promote the current employment opportunities of the City of Long Beach.
