Claveran, Commissioner Paula Prager, Commissioner Don Darnauer, Commissioner Naida Tushnet, Commissioner Ronald Eomurian, Commissioner 1 ROLL CALL At 9:03 a.m., Commissioner Sedillo called the meeting to order. STAFF LIAISON Lori Jarmacz, Superintendent Irene Rodriguez, Secretary PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Tushnet led the flag salute. READING OF MISSION STATEMENT Commissioner Eomurian read the mission statement. 2 APPROVAL OF MINUTES 17-010SR Recommendation to approve the minutes of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission minutes for the meeting held September 20, 2017. Suggested Action: Approve recommendation. A motion was made Commissioner Robert Finney, seconded by Commissioner Paula Prager, to approve recommendation. There will be another important Transit meeting on October 23rd at the Long Beach Transit. 4 GUEST SPEAKER Guest speaker, Jacqueline Lauder, MSG, Director Community Giving with SCAN Health Plan gave a presentation on independence at home and services SCAN has to offer seniors. 5 STAFF REPORT Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz invited everyone to attend the Long Beach Senior Center Health & Wellness Fair October 24th from 9am-12noon where they awill be offering FREE Flu shots to Seniors. Listed are "FREE" Flu clinics/locations that will run from 9am-12noon: 11/01 Mc Bride Park - 155 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. LB 11/03 El Dorado Park - 2800 Studebaker Road LB 11/06 Bixby Park - 130 Cherry Avenue LB 11/08 Houghton Park - 6301 Myrtle Ave. LB Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz advised the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission they will be conducting elections for new officers at the November Meeting. Community Relations - Commissioners Darnauer, Finney and Prager Commissioner Darnauer reported on a presentation that was submitted by the Downtown Residential Council to expand the Passport bus route. B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Carter, Eomurian and Prabhu - None C. Health - Commissioners Sedillo and Prager Commissioner Sedillo reported on lecture she attended on "CKD" Kidneys. Commissioner Sedillo reported on a Nursing home and medicare article. D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Darnauer and Tushnet Commissioner Sedillo reported that the Granny Flats development passed. Commissioner Darnauer reported on a recent Hi-rise building survey. E. Legislation - Commissioner Finney - None F. Technology - Commissioner Prabhu Commissioner Prabhu reported on a meeting she will be having with Heart of Ida to discuss Senior Technology/Training. G. Transportation - Commissioners Darnauer, Finney, Eomurian and Prabhu Commissioner Darnauer reported on an appointment with Council member Gonzalez and Kraig Kogan regarding the Passport bus expansion, he also has a meeting with Mayor Garcia scheduled for next week. Moola will be hosting a Dia De Los Muertos Celebration on October 21st. Gray Panthers will be hosting a Holiday Brunch on December 2nd from 11am-2pm at Plymouth West 240 Chestnut Avenue in Long Beach. Landuse Planning Meeting at Scherer Park on October 18th @ 6 pm. Aquarium of the Pacific is starting an Enviromental Academy on October 25th. Cost: 4 wks/$40 The General meeting of the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held November 15, 2017 at 9:00 am, at Long Beach Senior Center located at 1150 E. 4th Street Room #202, Long Beach 90802.
