Commissioner Carter led the flag salute.
READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Sedillo read the mission statement.
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the culturally diverse population of Older adults in
Long Beach and broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing, health, transportation,
technology and the quality of life.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Recommendation to approve the minutes for the meeting held September 18, 2019.

GUEST SPEAKER
Miles McNeeley, MSW Program Manager with the Elder Abuse Prevention Program WISE and
Healthy Aging explained the services they provide and the goals to reduce the suffering of adult
abuse.
STAFF REPORT
Ted Stevens, Recreation Superintendent reported that Terri Eggers attended the Aging Expo and
talked to over 300 older adults. He also reported that there was a Health Fair at the Log Beach
Senior Center and they distributed over 150 flu shots.

B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Carter and Valencia - Chair Carter
Commissioner Carter reported that Police are hosting a community forum tonite at Dowtown HQ
from 6-8pm.
C. Health - Commissioners Sedillo, Valencia and Easter - Chair Valencia - NONE
D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Tushnet, and Carter - Chair Sedillo
Commissioner Sedillo reported that they are increasing rent by 35% for land that the
mobilehome parks are on.
E. Legislation - Commissioners Finney, Tushnet and Valencia - Chair Tushnet - NONE
F. Technology - Commissioner and Chair Finney - NONE
G. Transportation - Commissioners Darnauer, Smith, and Easter - Chair Smith
Commissioner Smith reported that there will be a Transportation Summit on October 30, 2019.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Gray Panther representative, Karen Reside reported on several events and invited everyone to
the Partners of Parks art display on October 24, 2019 from 4-7pm.

The next General meeting of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held

At 9:48 a.m., Commissioner Finney adjourned the meeting.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to
three minutes. The Brown Act prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments
on non-agenda items.
