Carter, Commissioner Viola Sellers, Commissioner Don Darnauer, Commissioner William Smith, Commissioner Flora Easter, Commissioner Naida Tushnet, Commissioner Michele Valencia, Commissioner ROLL CALL At 9:02 a.m., Commissioner Finney, called the meeting to order. Commissioners Winifred Carter, Don Darnauer, Flora Easter, Mary Sedillo, Present: William Smith, Naida Tushnet, Michele Valencia and Robert Finney Commissioners Viola Sellers Excused: PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Sedillo the flag salute. READING OF MISSION STATEMENT Commissioner Darnauer read the mission statement. Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the culturally diverse population of Older adults in Long Beach and broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing, health, transportation, technology and the quality of life. APPROVAL OF MINUTES December 11, 2019 minutes were approved. A motion was made by Commissioner Tushnet, seconded by Commissioner Easter, to approve the December 11, 2019 minutes. LONG BEACH, CA 90810, 9:00 AM Excused: 1 - Viola Sellers GUEST SPEAKER Elsa Mei Tung, Research and Policy Analyst with Long Beach Forward. She talked about the non-profit program and discussed housing. MOTION PASSED: Agendize item for February meeting to discuss Commission to support a City wide housing policy to present to City Council. STAFF REPORT Ted Stevens, Recreation Superintendent introduced Melissa from Silverado Pool and Maya with Silverado Park Senior Programming and they discussed the free Senior Programs their facilities have to offer. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS A. Community Relations - Commissioners Darnauer and Smith - Chair Darnauer - NONE B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Carter and Valencia - Chair Carter - NONE C. Health - Commissioners Sedillo, Valencia and Easter - Chair Valencia - NONE D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Tushnet, and Carter - Chair Sedillo Commissioner Sedillo reported on Southern California Housing. E. Legislation - Commissioners Finney, Tushnet and Valencia - Chair Tushnet Commissioner Tushnet and Valencia reported on various laws effecting us and housing bonds. F. Technology - Commissioner and Chair Finney - NONE G. Transportation - Commissioners Darnauer, Smith, and Easter - Chair Smith - NONE UNFINISHED BUSINESS Commissioner Finney gave an update on the Age Friendly Steering Committee. NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Finney and Tushnet reported they are in theprocess of working on the 2019 Annual Report. NEXT MEETING The next General meeting of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held February 12, 2020. ADJOURNMENT At 10:47 a.m., Commissioner Finney adjourned the meeting.
