READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Darnauer read the mission statement.
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the culturally diverse population of Older adults in
Long Beach and broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing, health, transportation,
technology and the quality of life.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
December 11, 2019 minutes were approved.
A motion was made by Commissioner Tushnet, seconded by
Commissioner Easter, to approve the December 11, 2019
minutes. The motion carried by the following vote:

GUEST SPEAKER
Elsa Mei Tung, Research and Policy Analyst with Long Beach Forward. She talked about the
non-profit program and discussed housing.
MOTION PASSED: Agendize item for February meeting to discuss Commission to support a City
wide housing policy to present to City Council.
STAFF REPORT
Ted Stevens, Recreation Superintendent introduced Melissa from Silverado Pool and Maya with Silverado
Park Senior Programming and they discussed the free Senior Programs their facilities have to offer.

Commissioner Finney gave an update on the Age Friendly Steering Committee.

Commissioner Finney and Tushnet reported they are in theprocess of working on the 2019 Annual
Report.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Gray Panthers representative, Karen Reside reported on activities they will be holding and
announced there will be a Senior Fest on May 2, 2020 at the Senior Center.
NEXT MEETING
The next General meeting of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held February
12, 2020.

At 10:47 a.m., Commissioner Finney adjourned the meeting.
