Commissioners Don Darnauer, Flora Easter, Robert Finney, Phyllis Schmidt, Present: William Smith, Michele Valencia and Naida Tushnet PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Smith led the Pledge of Allegiance. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Commissioner Finney read the acknowledgement. We recognize and acknowledge that we are on the land of the Tongva/Gabrieleño and the Acjachemen /Juaneño Nations who have lived and continue to live here. We thank them for their strength, perseverance and resistance. In their spirit may we strive to always honor and respect the wisdom of our elders. READING OF MISSION STATEMENT Commissioner Schmidt read the mission statement. We advocate to improve the quality of life for Long Beach's culturally diverse older population by expanding knowledge and services related to education, health, housing, public transportation, safety, technology and language access. APPROVAL OF MINUTES October 13, 2021 minutes were approved. Motion was made by Commissioner Darnauer, seconded by Commissioner Valencia, to approve the October 13, 2021 minutes. The motion was carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Don Darnauer, Flora Easter, Robert Finney, Phyllis Schmidt, William Smith, Michele Valencia and Naida Tushnet STAFF REPORT Recreation Superintendent, Ted Stevens reported on the LB Recovery Act Exercise program and HSA target date is December 1st to come back and start serving meals. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS A. Community Relations - Commissioners Finney and Smith - NONE B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Valencia and Easter- NONE C. Health - Commissioners Valencia and Easter - Commissioner Valencia reported on the Covid vaccine/boosters. D. Housing - Commissioners Tushnet, Darnauer and Schmidt- Commissioner Tushnet reported the City Council will study and report on a variety of housing-related issues and Commissioner Darnauer reported on the groundbreaking for affordable housing on Anaheim Street across from Mac Arthur Park. E. Legislation - Commissioners Tushnet and Valencia- Commissioner Tushnet reported on the Federal: Passage of the Infrastructure Bill-will allocate funds for roads, bridges, highways, and broadband F. Technology - Commissioners Finney and Schmidt- NONE G. Motion was made by Commissioner Darnauer, seconded by Commissioner Valencia, to approve the reading of the Mission Statement wording. The motion was carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Don Darnauer, Flora Easter, Robert Finney, Phyllis Schmidt, William Smith, Michele Valencia and Naida Tushnet NEW BUSINESS NONE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Ms. Reside and Mr. Sive addressed the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 10 am at the Long Beach Senior Center.
