Geary City Clerk Regular Meeting Minutes Date: April 4, 2017 Time: 5:30 PM Location: City Council Chamber 375 Merrimack Street, 2nd Floor, Lowell, MA Economic Development SC April 4, 2017. PRESENT: Present on Roll Call were Chairman Samaras. C. Leary and C. Milinazzo. Also present were C. Mercier, Diane Tradd (DPD), Eric Slagle (Insp. Services), C. Rourke, Manager Murphy and C. Belanger. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: Chairman Samaras called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM in the Council Chamber. ORDER OF BUSINESS: Ted Panos, owner and developer of proposed hotel project at Athenian Corner Restaurant, introduced following individuals who are working on the project: Tim Grower (Partner), George Theodorou (Attorney) and Matt Hammer (Engineer). Atty. Theodorou commented on development plan and how it came about including design plans; meeting with neighborhood groups; compliance with City Master Plan; locally owned and managed; expansion of restaurant; Historic Board review and economic impact. C. Samaras questioned design element. Atty. Theodorou commented on appearing before Historic Board. C. Samaras questioned parking and traffic concerns. Atty. Theodorou noted City provided spaces in the garage and that valet parking would be available. C. Samaras commented on room designs. Atty. Theodorou noted the City concept as well as having smaller function rooms and conference rooms. C. Milinazzo commented on partnership and how effective it will be and noted the commitment to the City by the family throughout the years. C. Mr. Panos commented on the leadership in the City and the comfort that they provided helped him move forward. C. Mercier noted how it will enhance scene downtown and questioned if votes where needed to support project. Mr. Slagle commented on the permitting process for project. C. Leary questioned traffic impact. Atty. Theodorou noted the redesign of the intersection and new alignment for crosswalk. Manager Murphy noted support for project and how it would benefit City. C. Samaras opened meeting up to public. Atty. Theodorou provide handout entitled “The Athenian Corner Hotel Development Project Financial Projections and Economic Impact Summary” to body. Motion to accept the report as a report of progress by C. Milinazzo, seconded by C. Leary. So voted. ADJOURNMENT: Motion by C. Milinazzo, seconded by C. Leary “To Adjourn”. So voted.
