Lowell Cultural Council Tuesday, April 24, 2018, 6:30pm Mayor’s Reception Room, Lowell City Hall In attendance: Maxine Farkas, Laura Frye, Christina Khem, Jerry Bisantz, Joe Pyne, Marianna Wood, Olu Ibrahim, Roberto Dei (administrator) I. Reimbursements: Maxine and Laura signed two reimbursement forms II. Invitation to attend Lawrence Cultural Council: a. Maxine connected with Bridget Rawding from Lawrence Cultural Council, and Bridget invited Lowell Cultural Council members to attend their grantee reception i. Thursday, May 10 at Lawrence Heritage State Park, 6-8pm III. Folk Festival Participation: a. Maxine proposed that the Lowell Cultural Council secure a table for the 2018 Lowell Folk Festival, and will give our grantees the opportunity to use the table to promote their projects i. Cost is approximately $175-$300 (depending on size of table). Roberto will confirm costs ii. Other suggestions included using the table to advocate for Massachusetts Cultural Council funding increase in stage budget, or have games to engage citizens iii. We will continue discussion at May’s meeting IV. Community Input Meeting a. Nine community members attended the Community Input meeting. Their suggestions: i. Long-lasting projects, something that will continue to be useful after one year 1. An art space, livable art project, something sustainable on its own ii. Projects that involve a diverse group of neighborhoods iii. Projects that highlight multi-cultural elements iv. Collaborations v. Outdoor performances vi. Traditional arts vii. Projects that engage new audience members viii. Non-traditional projects ix. Youth-led projects x. Elder-led projects xi. Intergenerational projects V. Next Meeting: a. Tuesday, May 22, 6:30 in Mayor’s Reception Room 4/24/2017 LCC Meeting Minutes
