REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Date: June 28, 2017
Time: 6:30PM
Location: City Council Chamber, 375 Merrimack Street, 2nd Floor, Lowell, MA 01852

2. ROLL CALL
On a roll call at 6:31 p.m.; members present were, namely,: Mr. Descoteaux, Ms. Doherty, Mr. Gendron
Mr. Gignac, Mr. Hoey, Mayor Kennedy and Ms. Martin.
3. NEW BUSINESS
3. I Vote To Approve A Location For A Renovated and/or Newly Constructed Lowell High School.
The following people registered to speak on agenda item 3.1:
Eric Nelson
Onotse Omoyeni
School Committee members Ms. Doherty, Mr. Gendron, Mr. Hoey, Ms. Martin and Mayor Kennedy all
spoke briefly and indicated their reasons why Lowell High School should remain downtown as well as
stating that they believe it is in the best interest of the students. Mr. Gignac said that he doesn’t believe
this meeting falls under the authority of the School Committee and feels that the selection of the site
falls under the City Council. Mr. Descoteaux stated that he feels that Cawley is the best option and best
meets the needs of the students.
Mr. Hoey made a motion that the School Committee go on record in support of moving the high
school from the downtown to the Cawley site; seconded by Mr. Descoteaux. 1 yea, 5 nays, 1 abstain
FAILS
Mr. Gendron made a motion that the City Council reconsiders the referendum on the ballot for this
question; seconded by Ms. Doherty 7 yeas APPROVED

4. ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Gendron made a motion to adjourn at 7:04 p.m.; seconded by Ms. Doherty 7 yeas Approved
