Active Adult Center Advisory Board
October 21, 2025
A meeting of the Madison Heights Active Adult Center Advisory Board was called
to order by Chair Salley, October 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Madison Heights
City Hall Building at 300 W. 13 Mile Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071.
Present: Bessler, Brand, Mowry, Salley, Smith and Quigley.
Also Present: Center Supervisor Cowan
Excused: Faulkner, Juska-Svoba, Ratliff, DPS Director Ballantine,
Councilor Wright.
19-01. Minutes.
Motion by Ms. Ratliff seconded by Ms. Smith to adopt the minutes from the
meeting of September 16, 2025.
Yeas: Bessler, Brand, Mowry, Salley, Smith and Quigley.
Nays: None.
Excused: Faulkner, Juska-Svoba, Ratliff.
19-02. Meeting Open to the Public.
None.
19-03. Staff Report.
Ms. Cowan updated the Board on programs that are coming up including
lunch and learns, trips, classes, a Halloween Party and a Volunteer
Appreciation Event.
19-04. Maintenance Requests
Ms. Cowan let the Board know the handicap button for the bathroom is
complete, and she went over how to use the automatic door and lock.
19-05. Budget Requests
Ms. Cowan let the Board know she put in Capital Improvement requests on the
City’s five-year plan, asking for new chairs, something to help alleviate the
draft at the front desk, a replacement computer/box for the fireplace, WiFi in
the craft and cooking room and additional cameras around the building.

19-07. New Business.
Ms. Cowan stated we will wait on the election of officers and the Board picture
until we have all Board members present.
Ms. Cowan also told Board members she will wait until next month (when
hopefully more Board members and City admin are there) to bring up two topics-
purchasing City apparel for the Board and AAC staff out of the escrow account
and purchasing a pop-up tent out of the activity account for use at events.
Ms. Quigley asked how the visit from State Rep Mike McFall came about and Ms.
Cowan stated that the City’s Communications Department reached out to the
Mayor, Council Members and our State Rep, and Mr. McFall responded, asking
if he could honor us and bring us a proclamation.
Ms. Quigley also asked about budget requests and if those monies would come
from the escrow account. Ms. Cowan stated that no, those monies would come
from the general fund.
Ms. Quigley stated she loves the Wildcard Wednesday programs, appreciates Ms.
Poole and Ms. Patton for all their hard work, and stated she felt it’s not just a
program, but a way to connect with others.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:25 pm. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday,
November 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
