CITY OF MADISON HEIGHTS CITY HALL - EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE ROOM, 300 W. 13 MILE RD. ARTS BOARD MEETING AGENDA APRIL 02, 2025 AT 6:30 PM CALL TO ORDER 6:36 p ROLL CALL Toya Aaron, Vice Chair Mark Bliss, Council Representative (absent) Michael Covert, Chair Brian Davis, Member Ali Dorsey, Student Representative (ex-officio) (absent) Laurie Geralds, Member (absent) Susie King, Member Bill Mier, Council Alternate (absent) Harley Mordarski, Staff Liaison Jennifer Nagle, Social Media Vita Palazzolo, Member (absent) Keaton Soto-Olson, Member Alex Walker, Alternate (absent) Thomas Wrona, Alternate Sandie Young, Alternate Motion by Nagle, Second by Aaron to excuse Bliss, Geralds, Mier, Palazzolo, and Walker. Yea: All Nay: None Motion Carries ADDITIONS/DELETIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of Minutes Motion by King, Second by Nagle to approve March 6th, 2025 meeting minutes. Yea: All Nay: None Motion Carries MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC REPORTS 2. Treasurer Report (Mordarski) Mordarski presented the report. No one had questions. 3. Social Media Report (Nagle) Nagle reported that the Board has had quite a few engagements recently, including 32 new followers and almost 300 new content interactions. The current follower count on Facebook is 1,400. Covert requested that Mordarski follow up with the City Attorney about policies pertaining to Instagram. Nagle also asked about opening a TikTok, though Mordarski noted that the City Attorneys have advised against the use of TikTok for the City, including boards and commissions. Davis recommends utilizing YouTube. It is recommended to use YouTube or Instagram reels that are similar to TikTok. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 4. Arts Prom 2025 (Geralds, Bliss, Nagle, Covert, King) No updates. Nagle said she would add Wrona and Davis to the Facebook page. 5. Skelebration Trail (Geralds, Dorsey, Young, Wrona) No updates. 6. Trail Tunes 2025 (Bliss, Palazzolo, Aaron, Mier, Davis) No updates. 7. Civic Center Hopscotch (Geralds) No updates. 8. DIA Inside|Out 2025 (Geralds, Nagle, King, Young) Mordarski and King visited the DIA for an orientation on 4/8. Mordarski reported that the installations will occur mid-May. The subcommittee is considering a variety of different events, but needs to meet before anything is set in stone. Mordarski recommended combining events, for example, hosting a painting in the park before the summer concert series. Young recommended reaching out to a Bob Ross oil painter who could teach a painting class. Young will send over the contact for this individual to Mordarski. 9. HREC Cookbook Collaboration (Nagle) On hold. Tabled for now. 10. High Schooler City Hall Art Exhibit (King, Aaron) King recommends tabling this discussion until next year due to the timing of submissions. Aaron will contact Lamphere schools one more time since she connects with the Assistant Principal regularly. King will follow up with Aaron. 11. Summer Concert Series (Aaron, Bliss, Geralds, King, Soto-Olsen) No updates. Soto-Olsen offered to volunteer for all of those dates. Soto-Olsen can help with sound. 12. Arts Board Merch (King, Covert, Walker, Aaron, Wrona) In an email to Mordarski, Walker asked for additional guidance or direction regarding the Arts Board Merch design. Covert stated that Walker has the freedom to design whatever relates to Madison Heights and the Anniversary. Wrona offered to create some mockups as well. 13. Bandshell Utilization Subcommittee (Geralds, Covert, King, Mier) No updates. 14. Arts and Pride (Nagle, Dorsey, King, Wrona) Nagle will organize a subcommittee soon to review the plan for the day of the event. Motion by Aaron, Second by King to spend up to a maximum of $500 for Arts and Pride. Yay: All Nay: None Motion Carries NEW BUSINESS In closing, the Arts Board plans to take a group photo at the next meeting, with members encouraged to wear blue. Covert recommended that Soto-Olsen assist with sound setup for either Trail Tunes or the Skelebration Trail event, as additional help will be needed. Wrona mentioned he has been handmaking Halloween costumes since childhood and is skilled at working with cardboard, which could be beneficial to the Skelebration Trail committee if they need support. Additionally, a dance instructor has been secured for a potential upcoming dance class.
