REPORTS
Chief's Report
The Police Department and City social media accounts were flooded with comments about a case
that was from a few years ago. We have since put a disclaimer on the social media accounts
after speaking with attorneys and with the disclaimer in place, if the comments are off topic,
1
vulgar or threatening, we can hide the comments on the post and we will still be following 1st
Amendment rights.
We have hired 3 new officers, one of them was a lateral move and the other two were from the
Police Academy. We have received positive comments about the package that was presented
and accepted about the wage increase for the Police Officers. We have extended offers to three
other officers that are currently police officers for other cities and offered three more jobs
today. We also have three dispatchers in training now and one of them is almost done with the
training program and we will be at staffing levels for dispatchers.
We are in discussion with Madison School District to have a school resource officer for the
district. We presented the numbers to them, and we are waiting to hear back from them. It has
been a huge success with the Lamphere School District this year.
We have now selected our department Liaison, Sergeant Rayner for the co responder program,
CORE. Oakland County Health Network will be selecting two clinicians who will be working in
the four communities, Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Ferndale and Hazel Park. Chief stated that
he has heard very positive and good things about the program.
Council Report
Nothing to report other than the Officers received raises and Chief covered that.

Cyber Safety Presentation
Councilman Fleming stated that the Human Trafficking and Cyber Safety presentations could be
combined into one presentation. One part speaking about grooming and how to protect yourself
and the second part being about how the police handle these situations. Chief suggested that we
can get Officer Hirst involved to speak at the event.
Human Trafficking Presentation
Councilmen Fleming suggested we notify the schools so we will also have parents and their
children in attendance at the presentation and he will talk to Sgt. White when he sees
him. Councilor Wright stated we could also contact the Madison Heights Community Coalition
to be involved because of their involvement with the community and the youth
population. Chair Person Covert suggested that we could make this a two part presentation, the
first part covering how to protect yourself and the second part how the police handle these
situations.
K-9 Demonstration
The Chief will get in contact with Officer Bradley and check his availability for the K 9
event. We will host it again at Rosie’s park in September.
K-9 Calendar
2
Chair Person Covert suggested that we make a K9 calendar to raise money. Chair Person Covert
suggested that we use the money for a scholarship or equipment for a K9 officer. We could have
the photos done and the set up done for no cost. Chair Person Covert is speaking with a printing
company to see what the cost would be to print the calendars. We could have additional K9
officers in the calendar to expand the cities that would purchase the calendars.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion made by Roberts to adjourn the meeting, Seconded by Alternate Hilliard.
