REPORTS
Chief's Report
The bike rodeo was a successful event. There was a lot of foot traffic, happy faces and it was a
great event for everyone. We are working on social media follow up for the bike rodeo
regarding thanking sponsors, posting pictures and doing the bike raffle.
1
The Cyber Security event is scheduled for August 6, 2024 and the K-9 Demonstration is
scheduled for September 21, 2024.
We are at currently at 47 police officers and we are budgeted for 52 officers. We have 2 officers
in the academy right now. We are sponsoring one officer through the academy and the other is
currently enrolled in the academy. We have an additional officer currently in the background
process. As far as dispatchers, we currently have 8 dispatchers. We have 2 potential dispatchers
in the background process now. We just promoted Sergeant Walker last week. We have 5
officers total including Sgt Walker that are set to be promoted to Sergeant in the next 6 to 8
months. Lt. Fecteau is set to retire in February 2025 and Deputy Chief Filzek in December this
year. We are also working on getting SIU up and running with at least 1 officer by the end of
summer or early fall and hoping to bring a second officer to SIU soon after.
We are also hiring a crossing guard as one of ours retired.
Council Report
Councilman Fleming stated that Council passed an agreement with Oakland County. Chief
clarified that this is an agreement with Oakland County Tactical Consortium (Oaktac) to share
access to barricade situations, riots, civil disturbances, SWAT equipment and personnel that
helps MHPD deal with these special situations or situations that are too large for MHPD to
handle. Council signed the agreement.
We also recognized National Gun Violence Day on June 1st where everyone wore
orange. Councilman Fleming suggested that next year, maybe we could hand out gun locks for
this day.
