MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC None present REPORTS Chief's Report We are in the process of starting a peer support program. We are waiting for a few officers to go through training for this program. It was approved for the PD and the FD to purchase a drone. Fire Chief Lelito is taking the lead on it and we will have training for employees to operate the drone. We did have an officer involved shooting a few weeks ago and the investigation is still open and is being conducted by Oakland County. It is official that Deputy Chief Jeff Filzek is retiring in December 2025, and Officer Lewis is retiring in November 2025. 1 The Co-Responder program is still doing fantastic. In the last quarter, we had 328 referrals and year to date 1,063 referrals among all 4 communities. Council Report At last night’s council meeting, we approved the purchase of the drone for the PD and the FD. There are a few fall events for the city coming up. We have the Revin in the Heights car show and the Trail Tunes event. We are hoping this year is a bigger event than last year. There were over 100 cars at the show last year. We also partnered with the Fire Department, and they will be doing a fire demonstration, and the National Guard will be there as well. The trash can program is rolling out soon. Everyone should see their new carts soon. Half of the money for the program came from a grant. There are options to help the elderly and handicap residents to take out their trash. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Follow up on magnet purchase We will have to carry over the magnet purchase idea until the next meeting when Councilman Fleming is in attendance. Co-Chair Person Covert will contact Councilman Fleming to get some more information about the magnets. K-9 Demonstration We have confirmed with Officer Bradley that he can be there and there will be another K-9 in attendance from a neighboring department. Chairperson Peterson will create the flyer and send it over to Secretary Schell to post on social media for the next few weeks. NEW BUSINESS Notification of Absences Secretary Schell asked the commissioners please notify her in advance that they will not be in attendance for the meeting. If needed, we could contact our alternate member to come in place of the absent person. Secretary Schell created a flyer to recruit new board members for the Crime Commission and brought it to the meeting. To add a new member to the board, they apply, go through a background check with City Hall and then the recommendation is brought to Council to appoint the new board member. Removal and replacement of Crime Commission Board Members If a person has (3) three or more unexcused absences from the meetings, the board can make a recommendation to Council to remove the person from the board. ADDITION TO NEW BUSINESS Councilman Fleming suggested via email, that we change the meeting time to 6:00 pm. Co- Chairperson Covert stated that if we have it later in the evening, Chief and Secretary Schell will be here working overtime, which would cost taxpayer money so this would be up to the city. There was discussion amongst the group and a 9:00 am meeting time was suggested. Chief will contact Cheryl Rottman to make a public notice that the Crime Commission is changing their meeting time to 9:00 am. Motion to change the Crime Commission meeting time to 9:00 am made by Roberts, seconded by Covert. 2 ADJOURNMENT Motion made to adjourn the meeting made by Covert, seconded by Peterson.
